Perhaps the boxing world will get Tyson Fury versus Deontay Wilder or Anthony Joshua in 2020 or 2021. Perhaps Floyd Mayweather Jr. will make a comeback against anyone, perhaps not. In any case, there is no physical boxing at the moment, only virtual boxing.
Like ‘The Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’ Television Show hosted by the late Robin Leach, Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams is the current fate of boxing. Everyone is wishing to attend a boxing event, wishing to watch a live televised boxing or pay-per-view event, but there are none current available.
However, there is an alternative which will soon become available in sports. Reruns.
Major sporting events of the past have begun to be rerun. From Sugar Ray Robinson to Sugar Ray Leonard, from Matthew Saad Muhammad to Muhammad Ali, from Smokin’ Joe Frazier to Joe Calzaghe, from Joe Calzaghe to Joe Louis, from Eddie Mustafa Muhammad to Mustafa Hamsho, from Marvin Johnson to Marvelous Marvin Hagler, from Floyd Patterson to Floyd Mayweather Jr., from Iron Mike Tyson to Tyson Fury, from Andy Ruiz Jr. to Andrew Golota to Andrew Maynard, from Ernesto Espana to Ernesto Marcel, from Mike Weaver to Mike Ayala, from Michael Dokes to Michael Moorer, from Danny Lopez to Danny Garcia, deom Rocky Mattioli to Rocky Marciano, from Beau Jack to Jack Dempsey to Jack Johnson, from Madison Square Garden to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, to Diego Corrales versus Jose Luis Castillo round ten, from Mills Lane to Tony Weeks. From ‘The Thrilla in Manila’ to ‘The Rumble in the Jungle’, from Wilfred Benitez to Wilfredo Gomez, from Angelo Dundee to Don Dunphy, from Howard Cosell to Harold Lederman, magical boxing moments can come back to life.
The only major question is which television stations will embrace the boxing rerun concept, and what they will air. HBO, Showtime, ESPN 2, Broadway Boxing, Telefutura, and more. The Coronavirus Pandemic has provided the remarkable opportunity to replay classic boxing events, and give boxing fans the remarkable opportunity to reanalyze and enjoy their favorites. Which classic boxing events are your favorites? Like the great movies and television shows of the past, amateur and pro boxing events famous and obscure in the past has now come back with renewed vigor and purpose in the present. Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams. Being home still means you can enjoy televised sports in all sports. Enjoy.
