Rising Star Promotions returned to the Claridge a Raddison Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ, Saturday night. In the Main Event was Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna and in the co-feature was Anthony “Juice Money” Young with both victorious!
Welterweight Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna, 23-2 (9), 149, of Millville, NJ, defeated Nicaragua’s Carlos Winston Velasquez, 24-29-2 (15), out of Union City, NJ, over 8 rounds.
LaManna set the pace in the first round using an effective jab with left hooks to the body and lead rights to the head. Velasquez was a willing opponent coming forward with much less artillery than LaManna.
Several times throughout the bout LaManna rocked Velasquez but it wasn’t until the final round that he would drop him. Referee David Fields issued the mandatory 8 count but before LaManna could go in for the finisher the final bell sounded.
All 3 judges Kason Cheeks, Joe Pasquale, and Lawrence Layton along with this writer scored it a shutout.
“In August I want to come back with a name opponent like Kermit Cintron (former IBF champion), Zab Judah or return with “Dusty” Hernandez-Harrison,” said LaManna.
