Larry “The Easton Assassin” Holmes has never that I am aware of mentioned Michael Spinks stopping his 48 fight win streak. He only says “Marciano couldn’t wear my jockstrap!” He did it again last year.
Spinks became the first light heavyweight champion to defeat a heavyweight champion for his title. Spinks was lucky to win the rematch. This writer had the first one 8-7 Spinks and the second one 9-6 Holmes. Spinks got both wins.
Holmes of course blames his loss to Spinks on Marciano because the Rock was white. Four other fighters went beyond 49-0 before losing and one lost after tying the record which is now in additon Floyd “Money” Mayweather’s record at 49-0. If his fight against a rank amateur counts like Roy Jones, Jr. did in AZ last year it’s a disgrace.
Friday at the Chase Center in Wilmington, DE, they are to appear at the Roy Jones, Jr, against Bobby Gunn main event. Maybe I can get Holmes to admit to it then. Holmes did beat Leon, Michael’s brother.
Spinks won a Gold Olympic Medal on the greatest Olympic team the USA has every fielded in 1976. Holmes lost in the trials to Duane Bobick in the 1972 Olympic Trials.
