Unbeaten heavyweight champion Rocky “The Brockton Blockbuster” Marciano had 43 knockouts in his 49 fight career defending his title six times. He simply ran out of contenders finishing his career against the light heavyweight champion Archie Moore who was known for having more knockout wins than any other fighter in the history of the sport.
Marciano was highly popular and even had his own television show while doing commercials for such firms as STP auto additives. He held that record going back to September of 1955 which is over 50 years being surpassed by some five boxers before they tasted defeat.
Mayweather on the other hand won titles at super feather, lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight and super welterweight. He had twenty-one title defenses and fought from 1996 to 2015. His popularity is mixed depending on who you are talking too. He lost in the Olympic semi-finals in 1996 after winning numerous amateur titles along the way.
Whereas Marciano was known to watch his money Mayweather seems to throw it around to the point the IRS is investigating him. He has most of his money tied up into business and his collection of automobiles. It’s been noted he has sponsored the Golden Glove tournaments in either MI and/or NV.
This writer as recently sported a dark blue with white lettering short sleeve shirt with Marciano 49-0 on the front and Mayweather 49-0 on the back. Marciano’s name gets quite a few more compliments than Mayweather’s does.
