Doc Nowicki’s D&D Promotions made their promotional debut a good one in a pro-am Saturday night at the Grundy Arena in Bristol, PA. His partner Dave Price manages both Webster and Vines who were on the card. He also manages the No. 1 contender in unbeaten Jesse “Hard Work” Hart.

Super middleweight southpaw Derrick “Take it to the Bank” Webster, 20-0 (10), of Glassboro, NJ, won an easy 6 round decision over tough Linwood Dozier, 9-11-2 (4), in the main event. Referee Eric Dali worked all 4 bouts.

In the opening round the much taller Webster back from his first loss a year ago and didn’t miss a beat in dominating Dozier. In the second round Webster was moving around the ring countering the aggressive Dozier. In the third round Webster used his jab to keep Dozier at bay with little action.

In the fourth round Webster’s jab started landing the mark with authority along with power left hands to the head of Dozier. With half a minute to go in the round Webster landed a solid straight left that drove Dozier back about ten feet. He jumped on him but couldn’t put him away. In the fifth round Webster continued to box Dozier who never stopped coming forward showing a lot of heart.

In the sixth and final round Webster was looking for a knockout looking for that one left hand but the shorter Dozier would get low and was not easy to hit. At the sound of the 10 second warning Webster landed a three punch combination. The fans seemed to enjoy themselves with this and the rest of the card. “I hurt my left shoulder in the second round and really fought one handed the rest of the way. I hope to return in August here,” said Webster.

Judges Hill, Bruni and Lacend all had it 60-54 along with this writer.

In the co-feature super welterweight Elijah Vines, 2-0 (2), of Philadelphia, stopped Jordan Rosario, 0-5 (0), of Jersey City, NJ, at 2:56 or the second round after scoring a pair of knockdowns. Both boxers were down in the first round.

In the opening round the taller Vines hurt Rosario with a body shot making his one leg leave the canvas. Later in the round Vines dropped Rosario who got up and looked very mad and almost walked past the referee Dali. He rushed Vines and dropped him with a left hook to the chin. In the second round uppercuts to the body by Vines dropped Rosario. Later in the round several body shots brought down the guard of Rosario and he was it with a chopping right to the chin. He dropped Rosario face down forcing the referee Dali to wave it off.

In a cruiserweight bout Mike Hilton, 2-0 (2), of Trenton, NJ, stopped Dave Valykeo, 4-8 (0), of Neptune, NJ, at the end of the second round due to an injury to the left side of his ribs per the ring physician.

Hilton had an easy time of it dropping Valykeo in the first round. In the second round Hilton had Valykeo in a corner pounding on him for most of the round.

In the opening bout super featherweight Vidal “Suave” Rivera, 4-0 (3), of Camden, NJ, won a good close decision over Brian Santos, 0-1-1 (0), of PR, over 4 rounds.

Good first round with the much taller Rivera using his longer reach but the round was very close. In the second round both boxers really mixed it up in another close round. In the third round the boxer’s clashed heads with Rivera coming away with a nasty cut thru the right eyebrow. The bout continues to be good and close with Rivera seemingly getting the better of the smaller Santos. In the fourth and final round Rivera seemed to be working his jab with both mixing it up inside. This may have pulled the fight out for Rivera.

Judges Hill had it 40-36 while Bruni and Lacend had it 39-37 as did this writer. Referee was Dali.

Ring announcer Bruno Del Buono announced a 10 count prior to the event in respect to the passing Friday of Muhammad “I’m the Greatest” Ali at age 74.

In the amateur part of the show there were four entertaining bouts as part of this pro-am event.

Vito Vielnicki of Elite Boxing seemed to get the short end of the stick after taking the first two rounds but losing the third. The judges didn’t agree and gave it to Raheim Jefferson of Bozy’s Gym. This was a very good fight.

Jerrod Miner of Young Guns got a DQ win after losing all 3 rounds to Eric Gordon of Kingsessing Rec who didn’t get a physical before the fight. Then why was he allowed to enter the ring? This was a 116# Novice bout.

Jeremy Cuevas a southpaw out of Gray’s Ferry in a tough bout won a close decision over Oswaldo Morales also a southpaw out of Harrisburg. Cuevas was unbeaten in 29 bouts entering this one. His coach felt he could have stopped his opponent. This was an open 141 bout.

Antonio Perez of Capitol Punishment defeated Malik Warren of Charm City in a Junior 132 bout.

Assistant Boxing Director Ed Kunkel did his usual fine job. The promoters plan to come back to Bristol in August.
