On a ship at Europa Point Sports Complex, in Gibraltar, Saturday, in a rematch “The Rumble on the Rock” promoted by Matchroom Boxing – Eddie Hearn over the Zone WBC interim World Heavyweight champion Alexander “Russian Vityaz” Povetkin was stopped by Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte at 2:39 of the fourth round.

In the Main Event WBC interim World Heavyweight champion Alexander “Russian Vityaz” Povetkin, 36-3-1 (25), #228 ¼, of Chekhov, Russia, and WBC No. 6 ranked Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte, 27-2 (18), #247 ¼, of Jamaica and Brixton, London, UK, at 2:39 of the fourth round.

In the first round Whyte had Povetkin in trouble landing a big right on the chin after one minute of the round. In the third Whyte rocked Povetkin with a right on the chin halfway through the round. In the fifth round a right from Whyte on the chin drove Povetkin into the ropes that could have been called a knockdown. White went after him with another right on the chin followed with a left on the chin and down went Povetkin as his corner threw in the towel as referee Loughlin waved it off. Whyte came over with his own stool to have Povetkin sit on it. This writer never saw such sportsmanship that Whyte showed.

“He’s a tough man and if he wants a third fight he can have it. I didn’t fight a smart first fight. I feel I can be world champion. I want to thank my promoter and corner and my family who I will take a vacation with and be back in the gym,” said Whyte. His promoter talked about Whyte fighting ex WBC champ Deontay  Wilder in the US.

IBF Int’l Super Welter champ Ted “The Big Cheese” Cheeseman, 17-2-1 (10), #153 ½, of Bermondsey, UK, in a war stopped Commonwealth champ “Kid Shamrock” JJ Metcalf, 21-1 (13), #153 ¾, Liverpool, UK, at 3:10 of the eleventh for vacant British title.

In the third round Cheeseman had a bloody nose though a good round. In the fourth Cheeseman was cut on right eyebrow but had Metcalf out on his feet in the final minute. In the next four rounds Metcalf came back well having Cheeseman in trouble the end of the seventh but his right eye was swollen end of eighth.

In the ninth and tenth Cheeseman got his second wind having a good two rounds. In the eleventh Metcalf had Cheeseman hurt with 30 seconds to go, but Cheeseman came back landing a left on the chin dropping Metcalf who barely beat the count but in no condition to continue with referee Ian John-Lewis calling a halt. This writer had it 95-95 after ten rounds.

WBO Global Welter champ Chris “2Slick” Kongo, 12-1 (7), #146 ¾, of Bermondsey, London, UK, lost to southpaw Michael “The Problem” McKinson, 20-0 (2), #146 ¼, of Portsmouth, UK, over 10 dull rounds.

In the first round a left from McKinson on the chin of Kongo caused a flash knockdown. In the final seconds of the fifth round McKinson rocked Kongo with a left on the chin. Referee was John Layton.

Scores were 97-93, 96-94 and 95-94 with this writer 98-91.

Russian Heavyweight Erik Pfeifer, 7-1 (5), #246 ¼, of Eshton, GER, was stopped by Nick “Wild” Webb, 17-2 (13), #262, of Chertsey, UK, for the vacant IBO Int’l title, after 3 knockdowns at 1:51 of the second round of a 10.

In the second round Webb hurt Pfeifer 10 seconds into the round with a right on the chin. Inside of the first minute he scored a knockdown with a left on the chin of Pfeifer. The second knockdown was a minute later with a right on the chin. The third and final knockdown was a right-left combination on the chin forcing referee Ian John-Lewis to call a halt.

English Heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley, 11-0 (9), #232 ¼, of Ipswich, UK, knocked out Eric “Drummer Boy” Molina, 27-7 (19), #251 ¼, of Rio Grande, TX, at 0:52 of the fifth round of a 10.

After 4 even rounds in the fifth round Molina had Wardley against the ropes when Wardley countered a left-right on the chin knocking Molina down and out with referee Mark Lyson counting him out.

Lightweight Campbell “The Hurricane” Hatton, 1-0 (0), #136 ¾, of Manchester, UK, defeated Jesus Ruiz, 0-11 (0), #136 ¼, of Cadiz, Andalucia, SP, over 4 good rounds.

In the second round Hatton drew blood from the nose of Ruiz. In the third round Ruiz was cut on the right eyebrow. Hatton outworked Ruiz every round. Referee Victor Loughlin. All scores 60-54.  Hatton is the son of 2-division world champ Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton.
