At the Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside, UK, Saturday over DAZN Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing) presented in the Main Event former WBO World Super Welterweight champion Liam ‘Beefy’ Smith stopped Anthony Fowler in 8 rounds. In the co-Main Event British Super Welterweight champion Ted ‘The Big Cheese’ Cheesman lost his title being stopped by unbeaten Troy ‘Trojan’ Williamson.
In the Main Event Super Welterweight Liam ‘Beefy’ Smith, 30-3-1 (17), #154, of Liverpool, Merseyside, UK, stopped Anthony Fowler, 15-2 (12), #153.75, of Liverpool, Merseyside, UK, at 2:04 in the 8th round of a scheduled 12 rounds.
In the first round the first solid punch landed Fowler landed a right on the left eye of Smith opening a cut above it just over a minute into the round. With a minute left another right from Fowler landed the mark on the chin of Smith. In the second round Fowler continued to stay one step ahead of Smith landing that right on the chin. Inside the first minute Fowler re-opened the cut with a right. Inside a minute left in the round a flurry of punches from Fowler had Smith hurt. In the final seconds of the round Smith landed his best punch up to this point a right on the chin of Fowler. In the fourth round with half a minute to go in the round a right from the ever coming forth Smith opened up a cut over the left eye of Fowler.
In the fifth a right from Smith halfway through the round landed on the chin of Fowler and down he went. He managed to get through the round. After winning the first four rounds Fowler was in trouble. In the sixth round Fowler came back well landing rights re-opening the cut over the left eye of Smith. In the seventh round both fighters had their moments with Smith having an edge while the commentators continued to be pro-Smith. In the eighth round with just a minute left in the round a left hook from Smith on the chin and down went Fowler. He beat the count but was out on his feet as the referee wisely called a halt without and complaint from Fowler who fought a gallant fight and had nothing to be ashamed of in the loss.
In the co-Main Event British Super Welterweight champion Ted ‘The Big Cheese’ Cheeseman, 17-3-1 (10), #153, of Bermondsey, London, UK, was stopped by Troy ‘Trojan’ Williamson, 17-0-1 (13), #153.75, of Darlington, County Durham, UK, at 0:50 in the tenth losing his British title of a scheduled 12 rounds.
In the opening round both fighters had their moments off to a good start. In the next two rounds the action continued going back and forth who was ahead. A half a minute into the third round Williams landed a flurry of punches. In the fourth round Williamson had Cheeseman against the ropes. Cheeseman fought his way off the ropes but Williamson landed a left to the chin getting the better of the two in the round.
Near the end of the fifth round Williamson cut Cheeseman under the left eye with a right hand. In the final seconds of the round Cheeseman land a good combination having Williams against the ropes. Williamson came back just prior to the bell rocking Cheeseman.
In the sixth round’s final twenty seconds both fighters landed combinations having the crowd cheering. In the seventh round after a minute a Williamson left hook on the chin almost dropped Cheeseman. With thirty seconds left in the round Cheeseman hurt Williamson almost dropping him.
In the eighth round Cheeseman had Williamson against the ropes for the most part taking a big round. In the ninth round close to the halfway point a Williamson left hook on the chin almost dropped Cheeseman. In the tenth rounds opening minute with a flurry from Williamson Cheeseman was in trouble landing a right uppercut followed by a left hook on the chin and down went Cheeseman as the referee immediately waved it off without a count.
Super Welterweight Kieron Conway, 17-2-1 (3), #156.75, of Northampton, Northamptonshire, UK, defeated James ‘Kid Shamrock’ Metcalf, 21-2 (13), #156.5, of Liverpool, Merseyside, UK, over 10 rounds.
In the third round Conway rocked Metcalf with a right on the chin halfway through the round. In the ninth round Conway almost had Metcalf down with a flurry of punches. In the tenth and final round both fighter let it all hang out with Metcalf getting the edge.
Scores were 96-95 twice and 96-94.
WBA World Female Bantamweight champion Shannon ‘The Baby Face Assassin’ Courtenay, 7-2 (3), #120 ½, of Watford, Hertfordshire, UK, lost by majority decision to Jamie ‘The Miracle’ Mitchell, 7-0-2 (4), #117 ½, of Pacific Grove, CA, over 10 rounds.
In the first round Mitchell came right out on the attack having Courtenay against the ropes for the entire round. In the fifth round Mitchell had Courtenay on the ropes with the latter fighting back best she could. In the sixth round the left eye of Courtenay began to swell.
In the eighth round Courtenay got the best of Mitchell with a two fisted attack landing a right followed by a left hook on the chin of Mitchell having her backing up right until the end of the round. In the tenth and final round Mitchell seemed to do enough to take the title.
Scores 97-93, 96-94 and 95-95.
Lightweight southpaw Luke Willis, 11-0 (1), #134 ½ won a majority decision over Rylan “Pint Size Powerhouse” Charlton, 6-2-1 (3), #134 ½, of Norwich, Norfolk, UK, over 10 rounds.
In the first three rounds Willis countered well against the oncoming Charlton having an edge. In the fifth round Charlton’s pressure kept Willis backing up. In the eighth round the footwork of Willis had Charlton wide open for counter punches. In the ninth round after a minute a left hook from Charlton landed well on the chin of Willis. Charlton ended the round well. In the tenth and final round Willis lost a point from referee Steve Gray for holding.
Scores were 95-94 twice and 95-95.
