At the Bolton’s White Hotel, in Bolton, Lancashire, UK, Friday, over ESPN+ MTK Global and Top Rank Boxing in the Main Event featured a bloody brawl Shawn “The Public Nuisance” McComb lost to Gavin Gwynne for the vacant lightweight Commonwealth (British Empire) title.

In the Main Event southpaw Shawn “The Public Nuisance” McComb, 11-1 (5), #134.2, of Belfast, No. Ireland, UK, was stopped by Gavin Gwynne, 13-2 (3), #134, of Treharris, Wales, UK, 2:09 of the seventh for the Commonwealth (British Empire), of a 12.

In the first round McComb took the first half with Gwynne the last minute causing a small cut on the right eye of McComb. In the second round Gwynne hurt McComb with a right to the body. In a good third round of action Gwynne had an edge with McComb’s cut eye bleeding. In the fourth Gwynne continued to outwork McComb. In the fifth Gwynne was cut on the back of the head ducking from an accidental elbow from McComb.

In the sixth round of a bloody fight Gwynne outworked McComb. In the seventh round of action with a cut on right eyebrow and left cheek McComb turned away causing referee Steve Gray to halt it.   

Super Featherweight DP “Cannon” Carr, 12-0-1 (4), #129.8, of Sidcup, Kent, UK, defeated Dean “El Diablo” Dodge, 9-1-1 (3), #129.2, of Yeovil, UK, in a defense of his Southern Area title, over 10 rounds.

In the first three rounds Dodge chased Carr outworking him bloodying his nose in the second. In the fourth Carr came back well with combinations. In the seventh Dodge had a big round landing well. In the tenth and final round Carr boxed well countering the oncoming Dodge. Carr had a bruise under his left eye at the end.

Score from Ref Howard Foster was 97-93 Carr while this writer had it 97-93 Dodge. The commentators were one sided for Carr.          

Welter southpaw Darren “TNT” Tetley, 20-2 (9), #146, of Bradford, UK, was stopped by Samuel “The True Sensation” Antwi, 13-1 (6), #146.2, of London, UK, at 2:57 of the sixth round for vacant British welter title, 10 rounds. Very impressive win by Antwi.

In the first round a left hook from Antwi to the body of Tetley and down he went with 20 seconds left in the round. In the second round Antwi continued to outland Tetley landing bolo punches. In the third round Tetley came back in a close round. In the fourth round both had their moments with Tetley taking the first half and Antwi the second.

In the fifth round last 20 seconds Antwi rocked Tetley with rights on the chin. In the final 30 seconds Antwi landed a 4-punch combination landing on the chin of Tetley who went down. In the final 10 seconds. Antwi landed a solid right on the chin of Tetley when the referee Michael Alexander suddenly stopped the fight.         

Welter southpaw Elliot Whale, 4-0 (1), #149, of Sidcup, Kent, UK, defeated Jamie Stewart, 2-1-1 (0), #149.5, of Longton, Staffordshire, UK, over 6 rounds. Score 59-55 by Referee Howard Foster.

Welter southpaw Paddy “The Real Deal” Donovan, 6-0 (4), #149.4, of Limerick, No. IRE, UK, impressed in stopping Siar Ozgul, 15-6 (3), #149, of Turkey and Hackney, London, UK, after 4 rounds, with corner stoppage in a 6. Donovan is trained by former WBO Middleweight champ Andy Lee. Referee was Howard Foster.

In the first three rounds Donovan landed right hooks to the ribs of an oncoming Ozgul and completely outworked him. In the fourth round left uppercuts from Donavan drew blood from the nose of Ozgul. The corner wouldn’t let Ozgul out for the fifth.

Feather Mark “Sparky” McKeown, 4-0 (2), #127.3, of Coatbridge, Scotland, UK, stopped Brad Daws, 6-1 (2), #128, of Carlton, Nottinghamshire, UK, at 0:40 of the second round of a 6.

In the second round McKeown landed a double jab and a right on the chin of Daws and down he went for an 8-count from referee Steve Gray. Upon rising Daws tried holding on until a pair of overhand rights from McKeown on the chin and down went Daws causing referee Gray to wave it off without a count.

Super Light Pierce “Big Bang” O’Leary, 6-0 (2), #142.5, of Dublin, IRE, defeated Irvin Magno, 5-4-1 (1), #149, of Buxton, Derbyshire, UK, over 6 rounds.

In the two rounds O’Leary showed power in his right while Magno used an effective jab. In the third round a right from O’Leary on the chin rocked Magno 30 seconds into the round.

Referee Steve Gray scored it 59-55 with this writer 60-54.

In the fourth round a double left hook from O’Leary hurt Magno with 30 seconds left in the round. In the sixth and final round O’Leary had a strong round against a good opponent in Magno’s jab.

Middle Mohammed Sameer, 2-0 (1), #164, of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, UK, defeated Kearon Thomas, 1-10-1 (1), #163, of Walsall, West Midlands, UK, over 4 rounds. Score 40-36. Ref Steve Gray.
