In the US Madison Square Garden is well known for boxing. Matchroom Boxing’s Ed Hearn is talking about putting on outdoor boxing in his back yard known as “the garden” where his headquarters are. It was one time the home that Hearn grew up in.
“I want to be the first but I want to get it right. I don’t want to be first with a bad product,” said Hearn. He was telling the BBC Sport. Give him credit for the effort to get boxing back in action!
“Financially this will be painful for us. But after the momentum we have worked so hard to build over the past ten years, I’m not going to let boxing just dribble back. While other guys go with arenas and empty studios, ours will look very different. Just imagine its summer and the house is all lit up, you can see Canary Warf in the distance and fireworks are going off. Then over the hill walked Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin for a massive tear up on my lawn. World championship boxing in my garden? Oh, go on then,” said Hearn.
Hearn went on to say he would have boxers tested in their hotel rooms and stay there until test results are in. Hearn is certainly one of the top boxing promoters in the world if not the busiest!
