At Citizens Business Bank Arena, Ontario, CA, Sunday night Premier Boxing Champions and Tom Brown’s TGB Promotions over FOX Sports 1 presented a 13 bout card with Featherweights Brandon “Heartbreaker” Figueroa and Oscar “El Guerrero” Escandon in the Main Event.

In the Main Event Featherweight Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa, 17-0 (12), of Westlaco, TX, knocked out Oscar “El Guerrero” Escandon, 25-5 (17), of Ibague, COL, at 1:42 of the tenth and final round.

In the first round the taller Figueroa is using his reach while Escandon digs into the body. In the second round Figueroa flurried until he got hit with a left hook to the chin by Escandon. His reach was hard for Escandon to deal with. Referee Lou Morat twice warned Escandon to keep them up. Again referee Morat warned Escandon for a pair of low blows.

In the fourth round Figueroa out of southpaw landed a pair of right uppercuts to the body of Escandon. An accidental clash of heads caused a cut by the left eye of Figueroa. In the fifth round through the eighth round both mixed it up with the shorter Escandon coming forward getting inside while Figueroa was mostly throwing to the body.

In the ninth round Figueroa didn’t always use his height but bent down to Escandon fighting his fight inside landing uppercuts to the body. In the tenth and final round Figueroa landed half a dozen unanswered punches with the last a right uppercut to the chin dropping Escandon. As he tried to get up he fell back onto his knees forcing referee Lou Morat to wave it off.

2016 Olympic Silver Medalist and No. 14 WBA ranked Heavyweight Joe “Juggernaut” Joyce, 6-0 (6), of London, UK, stopped Georgia’s Iago Kiladze, 26-4 (18), of L.A., CA, at 0:41 of the fifth round.

In the first round Joyce plodded after Kiladze who used a jab while moving against the “heralded” UK fighter. At the end of the round Joyce was walking to the wrong corner. In the second round a right and left hook from Joyce dropped Kiladze for the 8 count. He got up fighting back. In the third round Joyce landed four punches with the last a left hook to the mid-section dropping Kiladze. Kiladze got up and landed several rights to the head of Joyce at the bell.

In the fifth round Joyce knocked Kiladze down with a right to the chin. When he got up he walked to his corner taking out his mouthpiece before the referee waved it off. It was scheduled for 10.

Light Flyweight southpaw Jesse Rodriguez, 7-0 (4), of L.A., CA, won a lopsided decision over a game Edwin Reyes, 8-4-3 (5), of Las Vegas, NV, over 8 rounds.

In the first round Rodriguez the southpaw was the aggressor using a jab following with left’s to the head as Reyes went more to the body. In the second round they tie up and the more experienced Reyes lands punches. Though half may be blocked Reyes is throwing more punches than Rodriguez. Rodriguez staggered Reyes a couple of times for he’s looking more for quality than quantity.

In the third round Reyes landed a hard right to the chin of Rodriguez. Rodriguez came back with a lead left to the chin of Reyes. Rodriguez landed half a dozen unanswered punches just prior to the end of the round. In the fifth round both went to the canvas. Rodriguez went down to a knee again from the slippery logo in the middle of the ring. Rodriguez hurt Reyes with a flurry of punches with Reyes showing a lot of heart coming back. Rodriguez landed a solid left to the chin of Reyes.

In the sixth round both are centering in on the body. The hand speed of Rodriguez is a little much but Reyes is landing few to the head due to the head movement of Rodriguez. In the seventh round Reyes continues to try to smother Rodriguez by holding and hitting. Rodriguez hurt Reyes with several lefts to the chin. Reyes was defenseless in the middle of the ring as he wobbled back to his corner.

In the eight and final round Rodriguez rocked Reyes with a left uppercut to the chin. Rodriguez is moving side to side hitting Reyes almost at will. Rodriguez drove Reyes against the ropes but Reyes is hanging in there. Rodriguez had Reyes out on his feet at the bell.

Scores were 80-72 twice and 79-73 with this writer having it 79-73.

Featherweight German “Panteonero” Meraz, 61-50-2 (38), of Sonora, MEX, was completely dominated by Stephen “Scooter” Fulton, 14-0 (6), of Philly, over 8 rounds.

In the first round Fulton whose fight Tuesday fell through took this fight on Thursday. He backs up Meraz primarily with his jab. Just under a minute left in the round and Fulton rocked Meraz with a lead right to the chin. Fulton landed a left hook to the body as Meraz is doing little offensively. In the second round Fulton landed a combination starting with a solid right hand to the head. It was all Fulton in the first two rounds.

In the third round Fulton landed a left hook to the head making Meraz clinch. Fulton landed a pair of left hooks to the body and head of Meraz. Out of frustration he is telling Fulton to come on though he is doing nothing. In the fourth round Meraz keeps his hands up on defense. It is his eight fights in nine months in 2018. Meraz landed his first left hook to the head of Fulton just prior to the bell.

In the fifth round Fulton continues to back up Meraz landing a double jab and right to the head of Meraz. Meraz though having over 100 fights doesn’t know what to do about Fulton’s jab. In the sixth round Fulton drove Meraz into the corner. Meraz keeps moving around the ring trying not to get hit so much but Fulton’s jab is always in his face.

In the eighth round Fulton starts with a lead right to the chin of Meraz. Meraz is putting up little resistance. A jab to the backpedaling Meraz dropped him. Meraz is a punching bag motioning to Fulton to come on but does nothing in return. He’s target practice for Fulton. Meraz continues to hold in the final minute receiving several warnings from referee Jack Reiss.

Scores were 80-71 by all 3 judges plus this writer.

Heavyweight Nick Jones, 8-1 (5), of OK, was destroyed by Nigerian Efe “The One and Only” Ajagba, 7-0 (5), of Stafford, TEX, in the first round.

In the first round the much taller Ajagba backs up Jones with a solid jab and several combinations. Ajagba feinted with the left and landed a crushing right to the chin and down went Jones. When he got up the ring physician stepped into the ring as the referee waved it off.

18 year-old Super Welterweight Joey Spencer, 5-0 (5), of Union City, CA, destroyed 41 year-old Cory Macon, 0-3-1, of Durham, NC, in the first round, of a scheduled 4. A 41 year-old with two fights should not have been fighting.

This was a card with too many fights but a good main event.
