At York Hall, Bethnal Green, London, UK, Friday over ESPN+ Lee Eaton (MTK Global) and Top Rank presented in the co-feature Event WBC International Super Welterweight champion Tursynbay Kulakhmet of Kazakhstan was upset by knockout by Juan Carlos “Merengue” Abreu of Dominican Republic in the seventh round. In the Main Event WBO Global Super Featherweight champion Archie “Sharpshooter” Sharp of London, UK, defended against Alexis “Yoyo” Boureima Kabore of Burkina Faso over 10 rounds
In the co-feature WBC International Super Welterweight champion Tursynbay Kulakhmet, 4-1 (3), #153 ½, of Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan, lost by upset being stopped by Juan Carlos “Merengue” Abreu, 23-6-1 (21), #153 ¼, of La Romana, DR, at 1:34 of the seventh round of a scheduled 10 rounds.
In the first round at the halfway point a lead left from Kulakhmet on the chin stunned Abreu. In the second round both fighters clashed heads with Abreu ran into Kulakhmet feeling he was stunned but to no avail. In the final seconds a left uppercut from Kulakhmet on the chin rocked Abreu.
In the fourth round a left while inside from Kulakhmet caused a cut on the right eyebrow of Abreu. In the sixth rounds final minute Abreu rocked Kulakhmet with a right on the chin taking his first round. A minute into the seventh round Abreu hurt Kulakhmet dropping him with a right on the chin. He took the 8-count by referee Victor Loughlin. Abreu was all over Kulakhmet hurting him and having him all over the ring until a right dropped Kulakhmet onto his face for the count.
In the Main Event WBO Global Super Featherweight champion Archie “Sharpshooter” Sharp, 21-0 (9), #129 ¼, of London, UK, defeated Alexis “Yoyo” Boueima Kabore, 28-5 (7), #129 ¼, of Burkina Faso, over 10 rounds.
In the first five rounds it was all Sharp who threw Kabore to the canvas in the fifth and was warned. In the next five rounds Sharp continued to dominate Kabore.
Scores were 100-90 as did this writer.
Middleweight Sam Gilley, 12-1 (5), #157 ½, of London, UK, defeated Daniel Lartey, 14-6-1 (12), #161 ¼, of Accra, GH, over 6 rounds.
Score was 60-54.
In the first three rounds Gilley dominated Lartey. In the final three rounds Gilley continued taking every round.
Super Lightweight Pierce O’Leary, 8-0 (4), #141 ½, of Dublin, Ireland, stopped Siar Ozgul, 15-7 (3), #142, of Turkey, Hackney, London, UK, at 1:13 of the seventh round of a scheduled 8 rounds.
In the fourth round a left uppercut from O’Leary on the chin dropped Ozgul to a knee for the 8-count. In the sixth round a left hook from O’Leary on the chin almost dropped Ozgul who went back several steps. In the seventh round O’Leary flurried having Ozgul out on his feet when referee stopped it.
Welterweight Shiloh “Sugar Shy” Defreitas, 1-0 (1), #145 ½, of Jamaica and London, UK, stopped Fonz Alexander, 7-117 (4), #148 ¼, of Newark, UK, at 1:37 of round 4 of a scheduled 6 rounds.
In the first round Defreitas showed aggression and fast hands with combinations. He received a warning for low blow halfway through the round. In the fourth round Defreitas landed a right uppercut to the chin followed by several rights on the head and down went Alexander nose bleeding to a knee actually clapping his gloves taking the full count.
It was only the fifth time in 124 fights Alexander was stopped.
Super welterweight Jordan “The Wanderer” Reynolds, 3-0 (1), #157, of Luton, UK, stopped southpaw Rodolfo Paterno, 2-5-2 (1), #151 ¼, of Ragusa, Italy, at 2:26 of the first round of a scheduled 6 rounds.
In the first round it was all Reynolds except halfway through Paterno landed a pair of lefts. Later in the round a double left hook to the body and head from Reynolds had Paterno out on his feet when the referee wisely called a halt.
