The Ford Center at The Star, Frisco, Texas, on Saturday over DAZN Oscar De La Hoya (Golden Boy Promotions) presented in the Main Event WBO International Welter champion Victor Ortiz, Jr. who stopped Lithuania’s Egidijus “Mean Machine” Kavaliauskas scoring four knockdowns in the eighth and final round. WBA World Super Feather champion Roger “The Kid” Gutierrez defeated Rene “Gemelo” Alvarado by decision.
In the Main Event WBO Int’l welter champ Victor Ortiz, Jr., 18-0 (18), #147, of Grand Prairie, TX, stopped Egidijus “Mean Machine” Kavaliauskas, 22-2-1 (18), #146 ½, of Kaunas, Lithuania, at 2:59 of the eighth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.
In the second round Kavaliauskas landed a right uppercut on the chin hurting Ortiz who went down but referee Laurence Cole called it a slip. In the third round a left on the chin from Ortiz and down went Kavaliauskas just prior to the bell and saved by it. In the next two rounds Ortiz controlled though he had a red welt on his right cheek in a hard fight. In the sixth round it was Kavaliauskas who had the edge landing an overhand right getting the attention of Ortiz.
In the eighth round Ortiz scored a knockdown with a left to the body. He jumped on Kavaliauskas landing a left hook on the chin and down for the second knockdown. Upon rising Kaaliauskas was dropped for a third time with a left on the chin that should have ended the fight by the referee. A fourth knockdown with a flurry of punches finally ended the fight by one of the worst ref’s in boxing Laurence Cole who finally waved it off.
“It could have been prettier. It felt like a four rounder and I’m not tired. I am ready for Crawford, Spence or Pacquiao,” said Ortiz.
WBA World Super Featherweight champ Roger “The Kid” Gutierrez, 26-3-1 (20), #130, of Maracaibo, VZ, defeated Rene “Gemelo” Alvarado, 32-10 (21), #129 ¼, of Managua, NIC, over 12 rounds.
In the first four rounds Gutierrez was outworked by Alvarado. In the sixth round a right from Alvarado hurt Gutierrez. In the eighth round Alvarado rocked Gutierrez with a right on the chin. Alvarado had a small cut over his left eye. In the eleventh round Alvarado continued chasing Gutierrez. In the twelfth and final round the left side of Alvarado’s face was bruised but he lacked no fighting back as Gutierrez won the final round.
Scores were 116-112 each and 114-113 and this writer 115-113.
Super Lightweight Alex “Chi-Town Heat” Martin, 17-3 (6), #?, of Calumet City, IL, defeated Josec “Escorpion” Ruiz, 23-5-3 (16), #?, of Honduras, and Miami, FL, over 10 rounds.
All judges had it 100-90.
IBF World Light Flyweight champion Felix “El Gemelo” Alvarado, 36-2 (31), #107 ½, of Managua, NIC, Israel “El Heredero the Clown” Vazquez, 10-4-2 (7), #107 ½, of Bayamon, PR, at 2:50 of round one of a 10, of a non-title bout.
In the first round Vazquez landed a right that Alvarado countered with a right and down went Vazquez as referee Louis Pabon counted him out.
Super Lightweight southpaw George Rincon, 12-0 (7), #?, of Carollton, TX, defeated Nikolai Buzolin, 8-4-1 (4), #?, or Russia and Brooklyn, NY, over 8 rounds.
In the first four rounds Rincon switching back and forth from southpaw outworked Buzolin. In the second four rounds Rincon continued to outwork a game Buzolin.
