WBO World Featherweight Champion Oscar Valdez, 25-0 (20), of Sonora, MEX, living in Tucson, AZ, stopped Carmine “Mr Wolf” Valdez Tommasone, 19-1 (5), of Campania, IT, at 0:09 of the seventh round.
In the first round Tommasone used an effective jab. Valdez seemed to be loading up not throwing much. Tommasone jabbed to the mid-section as well. Valdez coming back from a broken jaw seemed very patient. In the second round Valdez landed well with a right to the body. Tommasone boxed well using his jab effectively.
In the third round Valdez landed a lead right to the head of Tommasone.Tommasone used his jab but got ripped from a right to the body by Valdez. In the fourth round Valdez landed a left hook to the chin of Tommasone dropping him. He beat the count of referee Mark Nelson at 9. Tommasone landed a 3-punch combination but got countered by a right from Valdez that caused a delayed knockdown as Tommasone dropped to a knee and was up immediately.
In the fifth round Valdez worked the body well and going to the chin drew blood from the mouth of Tommasone. Tommasone used his jab to keep him in the fight but had no power to stop Valdez getting better with each round. In round seven Valdez dropped Tommasone with a right uppercut on the chin. Under his right eye Tommasone had an abrasion at the end.
“It was just good to be back in the ring again where I belong. He was a good opponent and I’d like to unify the titles,” said Valdez. His promoter said he will be back in the ring again soon.
Lightweight Richard Commey, 28-2 (25), of Accra, GH, stopped Isa Chaniev, 13-2 (6), of Nazran, RUS, at 0:39 of the second round winning the vacant IBF World Lightweight title.
In the first round Commey rocked Chaniev who was backing up with a right on the chin. A grazing left hook followed by a right hand on the chin from Commey dropped Chaniev. In the second round a right hand dropped Chaniev twice as referee Lawrence Cole wisely waved it off if not late doing it. Commey complained about hurting his left hand after the fight. He is scheduled to fight the P4P No. 1 boxer in the world WBA World Champion Vasyl Lomachenko.
