Kid Galahad was born Abdul Barry Awad, in Doha, Qatar. He is 24- (15), living in Shefield, Yorkshire, UK. He has won six belts including WBC International Super Bantam, BBBofC British Super Bantam, EBU (European) Super Bantam, Commonwealth Boxing Council Super Bantam, IBF Youth Super Bantam and IBF Inte-Continental Feather titles.
Four of his opponents when they retired were Delroy Spencer 14-156-3 (in Kid’s debut), Sid Razak 9-128, Pavel Senkovs, 4-68-5 and Simas Volosinas, 7-76. Let’s say he’s had his tomato cans along the way. Only half of his opponents had winning records.
It seems the Kid took that name from the original Kid Galahad, Elvis Presley, in the musical movie in 1962 with the same name. It was shot at Idyllwild, CA, with co-stars Gig Young. Charles Bronson and Lola Albright.
The movie was a re-make of the 1937 classic starring Edward G. Robinson, Bette Davis and Humphrey Bogart.
Some rated Presley as one of his best performances. He was an avid fight fan and close friends with Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali. He presented Ali with a long white silk robe with “People’s Champ” on the back. Presley, it has been reported, had a Brown Belt in Martial Arts.
