In the history of knockout streaks Philadelphia have had their share over the years. Going to John DiSanto’s www.phillyboxinghistory.com website even surprised this writer.
Middleweight James “Black Gold” Shuler had ten straight knockouts from 1980-82. Welterweight Billy Arnold, ten in 1944. Current unbeaten bantamweight Christian Carto who is now 13-0 (11), started his career at his debut 1916-17. Middleweight “Bad” Bennie Briscoe, eleven in 1972. Heavyweight champion “Smokin” Joe Frazier eleven 1975-76.
Welterweight Mike “MJ” Jones, twelve, 2005-07. Middleweight Willie “The Worm” Monroe, thirteen, 1969-70. Heavyweight George Godfrey, fourteen, 1926-28. Middleweight Marty Feldman, thirteen, 1953-55. Welterweight Gil Turner, fifteen, 1950-51. Heavyweight “Big” John Poore, sixteen, 2000-05. Billy Arnold sixteen, 1943-44. Current middleweight Tyrone Brunson, nineteen, 2005-08. Middleweight Eugene “Cyclone” Hart, nineteen, 1969-71. Middleweight Earl “The Pearl” Hargrove, twenty-four, 1979-84. And the winner is Billy Fox, forty-three, 1943-47.
I hope all the Philly fans and those who saw them score those knockouts see this and are probably surprise at the results!
