ESPN2 – FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS

ABRAHAM LOPEN
16(12) -0 -0
vs
GABRIEL TALMAJYIN
12(3)-1-1

Lopez seems to be in good hands. His management team has moved him along
in a nurturing manner which keeps his record intact while not coddling his progress.
He is a respiratory therapy student and seems to be a good kid.

Talmajyin is a crafty southpaw who’s won 11 fights in a row.
He had over 400 amateur fights and his manager says that his goal is to have
Talmajyin fight ONLY undefeated fighters from here on out.

His last fight was a split-decision victory over then 23-0 Daulis Prescott.

DUMONT WELLIVER
18(6)-25(9)-1
vs
JULIAN WILLIAMS
8(4)-0-1

Dumont Welliver’s is the sad tale of once a promising career into that of a haphazard journeyman.
Welliver turned pro in 1997 and shot out of the gates compiling a 12-0-1 record. He and his brother
(Chauncey Welliver) were legends in the Spokane boxing scene.

Today Welliver is 18-25-1 and has not won a fight in nearly 5 years.

JULIAN WILLIAMS is undefeated, true. Yet, the only opponent he’s fought with a winning record
contested him to a draw.

KENDALL HOLT
27(15)-5(3)-0
vs
TIM COLEMAN
19(5)-2(1)-1

KENDALL HOLT turned pro in ’01 and exploded from the gym winning his first 15 fights (11 ko’s).
There was plenty of speculation circulating on Holt’s meager level of opposition through the
early stages of his career. Only 4 of Holt’s opponents had winning records until 8-1,
THOMAS DAVIS handed him his first loss via a 1st round KO.

Shortly thereafter, Holt was found guilty on money laundering charges in New Jersey. Evidently,
Holt was the runner for countless “bags” of money which were delivered to his (then) manager
Henry Cortes. According to Holt, both he and Cortes had full knowledge that the money was
from drug transactions. He was allowed to enter a pretrial intervention program and the
charges were dismissed upon completion.

All of these legal problems went down in April of ’09. Since Holt washed everything away through
a number of court hearings, he has gone 2-2. He last fought in October of last year losing a close
12 rd SD to undefeated DANNY GARCIA for the WBO Inter-Continental Light Welterweight Title.

TIM COLEMAN was a standout amateur from Baltimore. He racked up over 200 amateur fights
which paved the way for an impressive 13 fight win streak upon turning pro in ’05.

In ’09 I saw him take on MIKE ARNATOUIS in Manhattan for the USBA Light-welterweight Title.
ARNATOUIS is a local fighter from Queens and the screaming GREEK contengency that pumped
their fists in the Ballroom that evening was beyond overwhelming for him. He did not
allow the merciless taunts to bother him at all however, where even though the judges made the
fight much closer than it really was – as TIM COLEMAN walked away the new champ.

Coleman is 2-1 since winning the title.

Each fighter is coming off of losses (to undefeated fighters) going into this fight.
Holt lost a close split decision to Garcia while Coleman was KO’d by VERNON PARIS.
