Nonito Donaire (25-1 {17}) vs. Fernando Montiel (44-2 {34})

What it’s all about:
By: Ricky Ray Taylor

Donaire, The Filipino Flash, comes off as one of boxings “nice-guys”. That stigma was attached to him immediately after he nearly decapitated Vic Darchinyan in ’07 – a fighter we LOVE to HATE – for the IBF Title. Although Donaire is all smiles – anyone with a pulse for boxing knows that the outward demeanor of the Filipino Flash is far from diluting his firepower in the ring. Donaire has won 8 of his last 9 fights by knock-out and is on a 24 fight win streak.

He’ll have his hands full with Fernando Montiel however. Montiel is the former Flyweight & Super-flyweight as well as the current WBO/WBC Bantamweight champion.
He captured both titles last year with 1st and 4th round knockouts from the previous title holders. Outside of a technical draw from a head-but in a bout 2 years ago, Montiel is on an 11 fight win-streak.

This fight in particular should be interesting to watch if only for the heavy-handedness from each fighter. Both guys are at the top of their game and somehow, neither is really expected to lose. Montiel wowed the Boxing scene when he destroyed Rafael Conception (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCRgcMHUaa8) while Donaire still has us reeling from his upset & utter destruction of Darchinyan in ’07 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MczSucAIfk).

With each of Montiels Championship Belts at stake – this FIGHT should be good ~
