A new and improved Zab Judah showed off his skills in the ring last night against Jose Armando Santa Cruz in the main event at the Prudential Center.

The Brooklyn native sent Santa Cruz to the mat in the third round with a crushing left uppercut, then forced Santa Cruz on the ropes while relentlesly hammering his head and body, causing referee Benjy Esteves to step in and end the fight early.

“It went just about like I planned it,” said Judah

Kathy Duva, daughter-in-law of boxing promoter Lou Duva, had good things to say about Judah after the fight, even though he had once left her company Main Events, back in 2002 for Don King, seems they have patched things up since.

Judah (39-6, 27 KO’s) proclaimed after the fight, that he was back. Judging by his performance I’d say he is. After years of fighting in the heavier welterweight division, this first return to 140 lbs. and junior welterweight sat well with the 32-year-old former world champion as he dominated the entire fight against the taller Santa Cruz

I had the pleasure of talking with friend and former Olympic boxer and 4 time national champion Eric Kelly, who had this to say “Zab coming back at 140 was a real smart move, his speed and timing look good, I give him an A-. He didn’t seem at all rusty and Santa Cruz seemed a little too slow and methodical for the faster and more elusive Judah. Santa Cruz wanted to land one big wild hay-maker while Judah was focused on piling up combinations.”
