On Wednesday, June 17, 2009 Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter will visit the Young Achievers Learning Centers/Fight To Learn after school program, which is housed in the Thomas K. Finletter Elementary School, located at 6101 North Front Street (Front & Godfrey Avenue). Mayor Nutter’s visit is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.

Young Achievers/Fight To Learn offers: homework completion, health education, introductory to Spanish, life skills training, arts and culture, recreational activities and more to at risk children ages 5-13, Monday-Friday from 3:00 Pm – 6:00 PM. The program also offers nutritional snacks on a daily basis.

Executive Director, Gloria Navas- Stuhl founded the Young Achievers Learning Centers, Inc. Young Achievers is a Non Profit Corporation that runs multiple sites: Finletter Elementary School (Front & Godfrey Ave.); Creighton Elementary School (Tabor & Faulkrod); Lowell Elementary School (5th & Nedro); and Carnell Elementary School (Summerdale & Devereaux).

Fight To Learn Program is a “collaborative partner” and is under the supervision of “2 time Pro Boxing Hall of Fame Inductee and former welter wt. boxing champion “Rockin” Rodney Moore. In addition to being the Non-Profit Corporation’s Founder, Mr. Moore also serves as its Board President and CEO.

The organizations also currently have collaborative partnerships with The Jevs, Cardinal Dougherty High School, Educational Data Systems Inc., Pathways Inc., Germantown Earn Center, Transitional Work Corporation, Congreso De Latinos Unidos, and LaSalle University, etc.
