A MEXICAN ICON LOOKS TO ADD TO HIS LEGEND ON JULY 18TH

TICKETS FOR MAYWEATHER VS. MARQUEZ: “NUMBER ONE/NUMERO UNO” GO ON SALE TOMORROW, FRIDAY, MAY 22!

LOS ANGELES, MAY 21 – For years, Juan Manuel Marquez toiled in the shadow of fellow countrymen Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales, even though boxing aficionados knew just how good the Mexico City native was. A world featherweight title still didn’t allow Marquez to break through, but beginning in 2007, “Dinamita” finally got his chance to shine on the world stage, and in the last two years, he has proven to be the best of Mexico’s revered trinity.

In his last five bouts, Marquez has scored emphatic victories over Barrera, Rocky Juarez, Joel Casamayor and Juan Diaz, with the only blemish in that span bring a highly controversial split decision defeat to Manny Pacquiao that many ringside observers scored for Marquez. The wins over Casamayor and Diaz saw him issue these world champions their first ever defeats by knockout, and with the win over Diaz, he earned a world title in a third weight class.

On July 18th, Marquez will look to add to his legend by defeating Floyd Mayweather for pound for pound supremacy. A victory will be yet another historic chapter in the career of a future Hall of Famer and one of the greatest Mexican fighters ever to lace up a pair of gloves.
