TAYLOR – LACY BOUT COULD BE OVERSHADOWED TOMORROW

By: Jim Amato

Although most of the buzz is surrounding HBO’s feature bout between Jermain Taylor and Jeff Lacy, there is an under card bout that has captured my interest. Former welterweight champion Kermit Cintron faces a very stern test in rugged Lovemore N’dou. Unless I’m way off base I look for Taylor – Lacy to be pretty much one way traffic in favor of Taylor. Unless Jermain falls apart or Lacy launches a left hook from days gone by, this one is an after thought. On the other hand poor Kermit just can’t get by Antonio Margarito. That doesn’t make him all bad. I still feel Cintron has a lot of talent but the tough as nails L’dou should test him. It could very well be a very entertaining battle.

In London David Haye will face his first legitimate test at heavyweight against Monte Barrett. I have definite mixed emotions about this fight. Half of me wants Haye flattened because he is an irritating loudmouth. The other half wants him to win so there will be a fresh face to stir up the horrendous heavyweight division. I like Barrett and he should provide some answers about Mr. Haye. I guess if I really had to make a decision I would like a Barrett bomb to hammer Haye’s head sending David to braggart dreamland. Like they say though, be careful what you wish for…

In Germany there are two interesting heavyweight bouts. Alexander Dimitrenko takes on battle tested Luan Krasniqi. Also prospect Denis Boytsov meets popular but limited Vinnie Maddalone. Dimitrenko and Boytsov should emerge victorious and move a few notches up the heavyweight ladder.
