Calzaghe Wins by Split Decision

By: Christopher Roche

In what almost amounted to a robbery in the desert, Joe Calzaghe won a split decision victory over Bernard Hopkins. Calzaghe was dropped in a flash knockdown in round 1, but he rose to the occasion and did what boxers do; he threw punches.

Hopkins did not throw a lot of punches, and despite the efforts of Judge Byrd, Calzaghe won the fight by a wide margin on the two correct cards. Harold Lederman had it 116-111 for Calzaghe.
