“Contender” Cancelled by ESPN

By: Christopher Roche

ESPN announced that they will not renew the popular “Contender” series. ESPN said they could not come to terms with promotional company, “Tournament of Contenders”, so the show was sent packing.

The “Contender” helped launch the careers of Sergio Mora, Peter Manfredo, Jr. and Alfonso Gomez. The show also recently hosted a fight of the year candidate with their final match between Jaidon Codrington and Sakio Bika.

The promoters for the “Contender” are currently shopping for a new TV deal, and all parties are reportedly very optimistic that the show will return on another network next season.
