Mtagwa and Kennedy win in Philly!!!

By: Jeff Miller, Ringside

The leather was flying Friday night at the New Alhambra in South Philly. Don Chargin, Peltz Boxing, and Joe Hand Promotions put on an awesome seven-bout card. The main event featured the return of Rogers Mtagwa 23-12-3 (17 KOs), of South Philadelphia taking on Aldo Valtierra 24-9 (13 KOs) of Mexico in a 10 round Jr. lightweight match. The first couple rounds were close, with both men landing crisp shots. However, towards the middle rounds, Mtagwa started finding his mark landing big overhand rights. The action continued until the final bell with Mtagwa landing most of the big shots, but it was the steel chin and the aggressive style of Valtierra the kept the fight close official scores were 96-93 twice and 97-92 all for Mtagwa.

In the co-feature bout of the evening, undefeated featherweight prospect Teon Kennedy 8-0 (4 KOs) of North Philadelphia scored an impressive 8 round unanimous decision over Castulo Gonzalez 9-4 (3 KOs). Kennedy used his quick hand speed and slick defense to outwork the very game Gonzalez. Official scores were 77-75 and 78-74 twice, all for Kennedy.
