Diaz Takes his First Loss-Peter Beats Maskaev

By: Christopher Roche

Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz suffered his first loss, as the “Galaxy Warrior” outflanked him over 12 rounds.

Nate Campbell fought a spirited battle and unleashed his hands and outlanded Diaz. The judges were mostly impressed, as Campbell won a split-decision. Diaz, 24, fell to 33-1, 17 KO’s. Campbell, 36, moved to 32-5-1, 25 KO’s.

Despite a lack of knockdowns, Sam Peter showed his dominance over Oleg Maskaev, and the referee waved the bout off at 2:56 of round 6. Despite Emmanuel Steward’s constant statements that Maskaev’s experience would pay off down the stretch, Peter was the fighter to pull out the win.

The 39 year-old Maskaev falls to 34-6, 26 KO’s. Peter, 27, improved to 30-1, 23 KO’s.
