Johnsen Brings Home a win for the Blue Team

By: Christopher Roche

In a very dramatic episode of “The Contender 3”, Wayne “Lights Out” Johnsen won a hard fought unanimous decision over Miguel “Macho” Hernandez.

The 30 year-old Johnsen, of Lyndhurst, NJ, used a stiff jab and a solid right hand lead to stave off the pressure of Hernandez. In the edited version that we saw tonight, Johnsen took some uppercuts and one hard left hook, but he was unshakable in his will to win. Johnsen won the bout by 11 points, and he moves into third place on the scoreboard.

In a sad, gripping moment, the audience learned that first place contestant Jaidon Codrington’s father passed away. The emotion was raw, and Codrington showed the heart of a warrior in his ability to gracefully stand before the cameras, in a very tough moment in his life. Codrington chose to soldier on in the series, and my prayers are with him and his family during their difficult time.
