Forrest on Fire; Vernon Forrest takes Baldomir out Dancing

In front of an estimated sellout crowd of 2,200, Vernon Forrest defeated Carlos Baldomir on Saturday night to win the WBC super welterweight championship by unanimous decision. The judges scored it 118-109, 118-109 and 116-111 for Forrest.

“Baldomir pushed me to the limit,” Forrest said. “He kept coming and never stopped.”

“Carlos is no slouch,” Forrest said. “He brought everything for 12 rounds.”

Forrest was in control of the fight from start to finish but had a point taken away for a low blow in the ninth.

“I pressed the action all night,” Baldomir said. “I thought I fought a really good fight.”
