New Era Fighting announces dates for “World’s Toughest Man” contest tryouts

SANTA ANA, California (May 9, 2007) – New Era Fighting (NEF), the hot organization exploding on the mixed martial arts scene, combining the UFC’s raw brutality with the WWE’s entertaining theme, will hold the initial tryout session on July 18-20 for its “World’s Toughest Man” contest, NEF president Ron Kort announced today.

NEF’s international level tryouts will be held at Quiet Cannon (AKA QC’s in Montebello) in Montebello, California. Registration for fighters (minimum of 205 pounds), as well as female models, will be from 5 PM/PT to 10 PM/PT on Wednesday, July 18, followed by warm-ups and a rules meeting on Thursday afternoon. Fight tryouts are scheduled Thursday and Friday evenings, July 19-20.

Combat fighters selected will advance to the next round, where they will fight each other in a tournament format to determine 10 survivors. The 10 tryout survivors, as well as fighters already signed to NEF promotional contracts, will compete on a show in several months for the right to be crowned “World’s Toughest Man.”

The “World’s Toughest Man” contest winner will then be offered an anticipated $1,000,000 winner-take-all purse to fight living legend Kimo Leopoldo, headlining a full card for a pay-per-view broadcast live from Las Vegas at a date to be determined.

“We want to prove to the MMA world that NEF has the best street-fighting heavyweights,” Kort explained. “The challenge is open to anybody who weighs a minimum of 205 pounds, as long as they have what it takes to be an NEF warrior. We will be organizing a set of rules to keep the action going for these tryouts. The goal is to test the fighters’ abilities in a safe environment and keep the audience entertained every minute of the event.

“NEF is conducting a talent search to sign the biggest, baddest heavyweight MMA fighters in the world. By viewing these tryouts, we’ll also get an idea of who the top contenders should be for the ‘World’s Toughest Man’ contest. We plan to broadcast the tryouts on a tape-delayed basis. The first level of tryouts is being built on the fighters’ safety and then entertainment value. In addition to the ‘World’s Toughest Man’ contest, New Era Fighting plans to promote our first major show in August, either in southern California or Las Vegas.”

Food, beverages and T-shirts will be sold throughout the tryouts. NEF fighters already under contract will be available to the public for meet-and-greets throughout the tryouts. All fighters are eligible to compete in the WTC tryouts.
