9-30-13 – Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY
NOTE: Info a little limited in bouts two and three- “issues” came up; including getting hooked into going to the Danny Gracia round table down the hall.
# 1 Slim So.Paw Jamel Herring, 135, Coram, NY TKO-3 (at end) white boy Justin Robbins, 136, Sgp’fld, IL. No KD’s, but JH in control. Damaged right eye has doc calling it off.
#2 D’Mitrius Ballard, 167, Te mple Hills,MD W-4U (all 40-36), slim Lekan Byfield, 164, Tarrytown, NY. No KD’s, Closer than scores; DB actually clocked a few times, but stronger physically.
#3 Derrick Bivins, 122, Phila Draw-4, Claude Staten Jr., 123, Brooklyn. Scores: 40-36 DB; 2 @ 38-38. No KD’s. Good action.
#4 Unbeaten southpaw Marcus Browne, 176, S.I., NY vs Lamont Williams, 175, Sacremento, CA. RESULT: MB W-8U (79-72twice; 76-75) No KD’s. MB made to look uncertain – punches from too far out. LW is as big as MB but is limited in attack – is however able to stymie MB. Action is a bit rough and tumble on the inside. MB lost point in round three for rubbing glove in face of foe as the two tangled in close- he did it more than once. Ref: David Fields.
Note #2: Put another one under the strange official scoring dept.: After six, two judges had MB up by 5 points; the other had LW up by one.
#5 Set for ten. Michael Perez, 139, Newark, NJ vs Miguel Zuniga, 140, TJ, MX. RESULT: MP W-10U (99-91 twce; 96-94) NO KD’s. MP boxes well in keeping MZ at bay. Lands some nice combinations, but i thought it was coser to the 96-94 card. Scoring note: All three judges gave MP the first five rounds.
#7 Cut to a four – walkout bout. Southpaw Noel Echevarria, 127, W-S, N.C. vs Emmanuel Gonzalez, 129, The Bronx. RESULT: EG W4U (all 40-36). No KD’s. Note: 12-0 beats 11-0. Good action, but NE not enough skills.
#6 Set for 8. (Is he or is he not a W. Boy?) Sadam Ali, 147, Brooklyn vs White boy Jay Krupp, 146, Catskill, NY. RESULT: SA W-8U (79-72, 78-71, 77-72 (me too). There was down time yes, but between, a few wild punchouts – both are wild but SA a little less so, Knockdowns: SA down end of round one; JK in three and late round eight.
