According to a reputable source, the opponents for Friday night’s card at Schuetzen Park have been set.
In the co-feature to the match up between Pateson’s Ossie Duran and fringe contender Matt Vanda, 2000 Olympian Jerson “Super Jerz” Ravelo of Newark will look to get back on track following a third round knockout loss on ESPN in June.
Ravelo, who has fought top notch opponents in Andre Ward, Allan Green and David Lopez, takes on hard hitting Puerto Ricans Anibal Acevedo. Ravelo, 20-5 (12 KO’s), and Acevedo, 13-7-1 (11 KO’s), will duke it out over six at super middlweight.
World rated Carlos Vinan of Newark will take on Miguel Rodriguez, 7-3 (3 KO’s) of Puerto Rico. Perhaps the most interesting of any world rated fighter, Vinan, 10-8-4 (2 KO’s), previously shocked IBF #2 rated Anthony Mezaache July 17 in AC. Vinan and Rodriguez will meet over six rounds in the lightweight division.
Fresh off an entertaining four round decision last month in West New York, Union City’s Juan “The Beast” Rodriguez, 4-0 (2 KO’s), will meet Ohio’s Salim Al Quaadir in a four round welterweight bout. In addition to overcoming Rodriguez’ raucous crowd, Al Quaadir will have to shake off twelve years of inactivity.
Tougher than advertised super middleweight Todd “The Viking” Eriksson, 1-4-1 (1 KO) will go for his second pro victory when he squares off against Philadelphia’s Joseph Dunn, 0-2, in a four round scrap. Eriksson has faced five unbeaten opponents in his six bouts, and will return for the first time since suffering a grueling fifth round knockout in May vs well regarded Latif Mundy.
Donald Bernard, a 1-0 former amateur standout of Paterson, will fight for the first time since June 09′ against Fort Wayne, IN’s Rogelio Sanchez, 0-1, over four rounds at junior welterweight.
Debuting twins Deano and Scotty Burrell will battle Noel Escobera and Sidell Blocker respectively in four round lightweight bouts.
GSFS will be at the fights to provide extensive coverage so stay tuned!
