Newark’s Alex Perez will take a notable step up in competition when he battles hard hitting Vincent Arroyo of Amherst, NY Friday, July 16 at the Prudential Center as part of a Friday Night Fights card.
At 11-0 (7 KO’s), Perez has fought just twice since 2007, most recently defeating 31 fight veteran Joselito Del Rosario two weeks ago in the Dominican Republic. Perez, who was a top amateur, served as a lead sparring partner for Miguel Cotto and Joel Julio, mimicking former world champion Carlos Quintana before both men fought him. In his last bout in the Garden State at the Robert Treat Hotel (which is literally two blocks from the Pru Center) he scored a gutsy unanimous decision victory over tougher than advertiser Cory Peterson in the fight of the night.
Arroyo is a familiar face to locals, as he most recently scored a shocking come from behind 8th round knockout over Paterson’s Jeremy Bryan. Against Bryan, Arroyo was being outboxed before catching the multi-time National Amateur champion and scoring a highlight reel knockout in the final round. His record is currently 10-1 with 7 wins by way of kayo.

Farrell Looks to Rebound from Lone Defeat!
Patrick Farrell was surprisingly defeated via UD last Sunday in Philadelphia by local favorite Kamarah Pasley, who dropped him for the first time as a professional in the process. Farrell, a hard hitting cruiserweight, has no interest in thinking about what went wrong.
The popular Jersey City native returns to the ring in the off-TV portion of the undercard when he takes on tough New Yorker Newton Kidd in a six round affair.
Even though Kidd has been inactive since 2008 he expected to present difficulties for Farrell. At 7-7-1 (4 KO’s), Kidd is a former New York Golden Gloves Champion and most recently defeated 6-0 Sean Thompson in the latter’s hometown. He also dropped a controversial decision to former world champion Lou Del Valle.
The card featuring Perez-Arroyo and Farrell-Kidd is headlined by Zab Judah, who is fighting in Jersey for the first time since 2003.
