Evidently, SHOWTIME, TELEFUTURA & FOXSPORTS are taking the month of JUNE off from LIVE boxing.
Although at first glance it seems like JUNE isn’t carrying its weight in the square circle – there ARE a few fighters/matchups we may want to consider viewing:
CARLOS MOLINA is a late replacement in tonights bout with DANNY PEREZ. Molina is filling in for CARLOS QUINTANA. If Perez’ handlers think they’ve gotten themselves a tomato-can in Molina, they’d better think twice. Molina is on an 8 fight WIN streak. Last February he took his fists on the road traveling to NYC and squared up as an underdog to 17-1 Alexis Camacho. Molina won BIG on all cards in an easy UD. All 4 of Molinas losses were to undefeated fighters – one of which was JULIO CHAVEZ, JR in ’06 when he dropped a MD.
The fight with durable 34-5 fighter Danny Perez should be fun to watch.
Robert “Ghost” Guerrero was supposed to face rugged Johnnie Edwards on ESPN’s 6/12 broadcast. Edwards pulled out and JACKSON ASIKU stepped in. Asiku is a tough Aussie who is on a 14 fight win streak. Although I barely recognize Asiku’s laundry list of foes, he DID come back to avenge one of his losses by KO’n the guy. Nice.
On the undercard of CLOTTEY/COTTO is one of my favorite new fighters, MATT KOROBOV. He’s 5-0 now. Keep your eye on him. In the unlikely event that Clottey or Cotto is KO’d, we may get to see him on the tube.
I just got word today that DAVID HAYE has pulled out of his 6/20 matchup with Klitschko. Let’s see who steps up to the plate, if anyone.
On the LOPEZ/LONTCHI undercard 6/27 is an excellent matchup ~ ERIC MOREL 41-2 vs FERNANDO MONTIEL 39-2. ’96 Olympian “Little Hands of Steel” ERIC MOREL was 33-0 at one point in his PRO career. His hands have also gotten him into plenty of trouble stemming from a sexual assault charge against a drunken 15 year old girl in ’07. He is currently registered as a “SEX OFFENDER” due to the crime.FERNANDO MONTIEL is a Super-Flyweight Champ who has been in the game for a number of years. Philipino sensation NONITO DONAIR is awaiting the winner of this fight.
On the same card as the MONTIEL/MOREL rumble I see PAULIE MALIGNAGGI squaring up against MIKE ALVARADO. Alvarado is undefeated YET highly untested. THIS should be good!
