In an unbelievable display of will, Antonio Margarito has stopped previously unbeaten Miguel Cotto in the eleventh round.
As I predicted, Cotto was using his speed and fast hands throughout the bout, and he landed shot after shot on Margarito, but the tough Mexican warrior refused to be denied.
Margarito forced a bloodied Cotto to drop to a knee early in the eleventh. Cotto rose and took the eight count, but he was dropped to a knee again. Cotto’s corner threw in the towel at 2:05 of the eleventh round, and referee Kenny Bayless waved off the bout.
This bout was incredibly close, but Margarito refused to be denied and eventually broke Cotto down for the TKO. The 30 year-old Margarito takes the WBA welterweight belt, and he improves to 37-5, 27 KO’s. Cotto, 27, drops to 32-1, 26 KO’s.
