On Thursday, April 3, 2008 Pennsylvania State Senator LeAnna Washington will visit the Fight To Learn after school program, which is housed in the Belfield Recreation Center, located at 21st Street and Chew Avenue. Senator Washington’s visit is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
Fight To Learn employs literacy training, life skills training, computer training and athletic training to enhance the lives and futures of at risk boys and girls ages 5-12, Monday-Friday, from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
Fight To Learn is under the personal supervision of “two” time Pro Hall of Fame Boxing champion “Rockin'” Rodney Moore. In addition to being the non-profit organization’s founder Mr. Moore also serves as its President and CEO.
Fight To Learn has also been piloted in various Philadelphia Recreation Department sites including the Shepard, Rhawnhurst and Lonnie Young sites. The program actively collaborates with the Institute for the Study of Civic Values, City Year, Arbor SPOC, Vista Volunteers, The Jevs, Philadelphia Youth Works, Girls High School, Educational Data Systems Inc., Germantown Earn Center, LaSalle University, etc
