Carlos Ilinas and CLIP Promotions will present Night of Knockouts XVIII, an exciting ten bout card of professional boxing, on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Sound Board Night Club, Motor City Casino, Detroit, Michigan. Undefeated local light heavyweight prospect Taylor Duerr is featured in the six round main event, fighting at the cruiserweight limit. It will be Duerr’s first bout since defeating Neller Obregon by eight round decision at Motor City in November 2019, his last bout shortly before the coronavirus Pandemic began.
Detroit southpaw and local favorite, super middleweight Daryl Cunningham, 43-9 with 19 knockouts, winner of ten straight, will be featured on the next CLIP Promotions card in October or December 2021 at Sound Board, according to promoter Carlos Ilinas.
Duerr, 10-0-2 with seven knockouts, Detroit, Michigan, fights between 173 and 196 pounds. Duerr will be fighting at cruiserweight against dangerous Mexican trial horse Josue “Chiquilin” Obando, 20-30-2 with 15 knockouts, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
Obando stopped 37-8 Marcos Reyes in the sixth round in November 2020. Obando’s record is deceiving. Obando’s last six opponents including Duerr have a combined 115 wins. In 2019, Obando went 3-1-1, getting stopped once in the fifth round by former middleweight contender Dominic Wade. However, in 2019, Obando stopped Jaudiel Zepeda, Israel Ornelas, undefeated Alfonzo Flores, and drew with 22-4-1 Joaquin Zamora.
Duerr’s bout with Obando will not be a walk in the park for either man. However, Duerr has more experience at the higher weight, Obando does not. Taylor Duerr is favored to win by unanimous decision, or stoppage between rounds four and six. Duerr is suffering from inactivit. Caution might take this bout the six round distance. Duerr has the power and talent to take out Obando after trapping him on the ropes. If Duerr can get to work, stick to the game plan, work Obando over, and eventually stop him. Duerr is still better off fighting at 175 pounds light heavyweight. Phil Awada and the Duerr corner be so advised.
Night of Knockouts XVIII Undercard Predictions
Ronaldo Vargas KO 3 Akeem Jackson, Welterweights
Wisconsin 5-1 prospect Vargas will expose the padded record of Maryland’s 5-1 Jackson.
Derick Miller Jr. KO 3 Marcus Maulding, Cruiserweights
4-0 cruiserweight prospect Miller is from Monroe, Michigan. His limited opponent, 1-3 southpaw Maulding, Owosso, Michigan, is not good enough to reach the final bell.
Samuel Rizzo (Pro Debut) Win 4 Brandon Trout, Super Featherweights
Pro debut for local super featherweight Rizzo, from Plymouth, Michigan.
Matthew Niziolek (Pro Debut) TKO 2 Anthony Young, Welterweights
Pro debut for local welterweight Niziolek, from Monroe, Michigan. 0-2 opponent Anthony Young of Philadelphia is not to be confused with 22-2 Atlantic City welterweight contender Anthony “Juice” Young (the other) who is fighting in Atlantic City on September 25, 2021.
Nicole Reinhart Win Split Decision 4 Angelina Hoffschneider, Female Super Lightweights
Two minute rounds. Michigan’s 1-2 Reinhart favored over Colorado’s 0-3 Hoffschneider.
Tyler Perrault KO 2 Arnulfo Solis III, Heavyweights
0-2 Perrault by KO over 0-1 southpaw Solis. Both winless fighters have been kayoed three times combined. Do not expect a decision. Expect a brief spectacular slugfest, while it lasts.
Matthews Rodriguez Win 4 Fernando Hernandez, Middleweights
2-0 southpaw middleweight Rodriguez from Saginaw, Michigan. 1-3 Hernandez, Stockton, California, is trained by former light heavyweight contender Alvaro “Yaqui” Lopez.
Duane Taylor (Pro Debut) Win 4 Jessie Smith (Pro Debut), Detroit Middleweights
