Kunkabayev and Azhbenov Win in Kazakhstan Saturday over ESPN+!

At the Tynyshpayev Academy of Transport & Communications, Almaty, KAZ, Saturday, MTK Global Kazakhstan over ESPN+ presented in the Main Event Kamshybek Kunkabayev who stopped after five rounds late sub  Server Emurlaev for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Cruiserweight title.

Southpaw Olympian Kamshybek Kunkabayev, 3-0 (3), #199.7, of Kyzylorda, KAZ, stopped late sub Server Emurlaev, 23-2 (8), #199.9, of UZB and Moscow, RUS, after six rounds for vacant WBO Asia Pacific Cruiserweight title, 10 rounds.

In the first five rounds it’s all the taller Kunkabayev. In the sixth round he hurt late sub Emurlaev early in the round. At the bell he rocked Emurlaev who failed to come out for seventh round. Emurlaev came back a week ago after an absence of nine years taking this fight.

In the co-Main Event Evgeny “No Mercy” Smirnov, 13-2-3 (3), #134.9, of Kineshma, Russia, lost a disputed decision to southpaw Nurtas Azhbenov, 11-0 (4), #134.9, of Kandyagash, KAZ, vacant WBO Asian Pacific Lightweight title, over 10 rounds.

In the first two rounds Azhbenov controlled with his jab. Smirnov put continuous pressure on Azhbenov taking the next three rounds with a big fifth. Smirnov chased Azhbenov the entire fight taking the last two rounds.

Scores were 100-90, 99-91 and 96-94 Azhbenov with this writer 96-94 Smirnov. The two judges must have been watching a different fight.

Welter Evgeny Pavko, 18-4-1 (13), #146.1, of Kopeysk, RUS, lost to southpaw Olympian Talgat Shayken, 4-0 (2), #146.6, of Koksetau, KAZ, over 8 rounds.

In the first round Pavko came right out landing a right on the chin of Shayken. In the next three rounds it was even with Shayken getting away with foul tactics. In the eighth and final round a lead left from Shayken on the chin spun Pavko completely around.

Scores were 80-72 twice and 79-73 with this writer 76-74.

Middle southpaw Vasily Shtyk, 2-3 (2), #158.7, of Belarus and Angarsk, RUS, was stopped by southpaw Abey Tolesh, 7-1 (5), of Shymkent, KAZ, at 1:56 of the fifth of a scheduled 8 rounds.

In the first three rounds it was close but Shtyk lost a point in the third for continuous hitting behind the head of Tolesh. In the fifth round a left from Tolesh on the chin dropped Shtyk halfway through the round. Upon rising Tolesh was all over Shtyk landing a 3-punch combination with a final left on the chin dropping Shtyk ending the fight.    

Featherweight southpaw Sagyndyk Modashev, 2-2 (1), of Uralsk, KAZ, lost to Bagdat Uaydayev, 5-0 (0), of Kyzylorda, KAZ, over 6 rounds.

In the first three rounds Modashev the shorter of the two showed good defense slipping punches from Uaydayev who did his best work in the final minute of each round. In the last three rounds Uaydayev had the edge with a big final round against the oncoming Modashev.

Scores were 60-54 Uaydayev while this writer had it 58-56.
