Carlos Takam and Carlos Castro win at The Bubble in the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, NV, Thursday, in a Top Rank Boxing – Bob Arum, promotion over ESPN.

In the Main Event heavyweight Carlos Takam, 336-8-1 (28), #245.7, of Cameroon and Henderson, NV, defeated southpaw Jerry “Slugger” Forrest, 26-4 (20), #225.6, of Newport Newport News, VA, over 10 rounds.

In the first round the bigger Takam controlled the action in the first two rounds. In the third and fourth rounds Takam continued to outland Forrest. In the fifth round Takam received a cut over right eye. Forrest got some motivation by this.

In the sixth and seventh round Forrest closed the gap while the cut bothered Takam.

In the eighth round the blood continued to flow from the right eye of Takam allowing Forrest back into the fight. In the ninth round it was close. In the tenth and final round Takam seemed to have enough to pull out the win. Referee was Tony Weeks.

Scores Max DeLuca 96-94, Patrica Morse Jarman 97-93 and Dave Moretti 98-92 writer 97-93.

“I’m ready to fight anybody. I’d like a rematch with Chisora and then Fury,” said Takam.

In the co-feature highly ranked bantamweight Carlos Castro, 26-0 (11), #123.8, of Phoenix, AZ, stopped tough Cesar “Corazon” Juarez, 25-9 (19), #124.4, of Mexico City, MEX, after 5 rounds of a scheduled 10 rounds.

In the first round Castro used his reach to take the round controlling with jab. In the second round a solid right from Castro on the chin of Juarez rocked him early into the round. In the third round Castro continued moving and sticking Juarez to body and head.

In the fourth round in the final minute Castro landed a solid right uppercut to the mid-section stopping Juarez in his tracks. In the fifth round Castro opened up with a vicious attack to the body and head inside. By the end of the round Juarez looked finished and his corner stopped it. Celestino Ruiz was the referee.

“Juarez was a tough fighter and an honor to be in the ring with him. My team worked hard. I want every world champion,” said Castro.

Super featherweight Joshafat “Truth” Ortiz, 8-0 (4), #130.8, of PR and Reading, PA, won a majority decision over Joshua Orta, 6-1 (2), #132.7, of Holbrook, MASS, over 6 rounds.

In the first round the taller Ortiz used his reach with an effective jab to take the first two rounds. In the third round Ortiz started going to the body of Orta. In the fourth round Orta forced Ortiz to the ropes with good body work. In the fifth round Orta landed numerous rights while inside to the chin of Ortiz. An accidental clash of heads caused a cut on the right eye of Ortiz. In the sixth and final round the action picked-up. Referee was Robert Hoyle. Ortiz trained by Philly’s Rashiem Jefferson.

Super Middleweight Fred Wilson, Jr., 6-1-2 (2), #159, of Cleveland, OH, lost to Donte “Savage” Stubbs, 7-1 (2), #159.5, of Riverside, CA, scoring several knockdowns over 6 rounds.

In the first round the much taller by 5″ Wilson used his reach for the incoming Stubbs back from his last fight 9 days ago. In the second round the clinching continued giving referee Celestino Ruiz plenty of work. In the third round Stubbs landed several overhand rights to the chin dropping Wilson in the final seconds for an 8-count.

In the fourth round the referee took away a point from Wilson for continuous holding. He landed a rare right to the rib cage of the oncoming Stubbs. In the fifth round Wilson opened up with both hands to the body of Stubbs. A right from Wilson bloodied the nose of Stubbs in the final minute of the round. In the final ten seconds Stubbs scored a knockdown landing a right to the head. In the sixth and final round Stubbs was trying for a knockout but Wilson hung in there.

Scores were DeLuca 58-53, Jarman 58-54 and Milgore 58-53 with this writer 57-54.

Welterweight Peter Cortez, 2-2 (1), #147.5, of Reno, NV, was stopped by Corey Champion, 2-3 (1), #147.6, of Louisa, VA, at 2:58 of the first round of a scheduled 4 rounds.

In the first round both fighters connected to the chin and went down. Champion scored another knockdown in stopping Cortez.
