WBC World Super Featherweight champion Miguel “El Alacran” Berchelt in a non-title fight Saturday over ESPN stopped Eleazar “Tronco” Valenzuela in the sixth round at the Gimnasio TV Azteca, Distrito Federal, Mexico City, Mexico. This was a Top Rank Boxing – Bob Arum and Promociones Zanfer – Fernando Beltran co-promotion.

In the Main Event in a non-title bout WBC World Super Featherweight champion Miguel “El Alacran” Berchelt, 38-1 (34), #135, of Merida, Yucatan, MEX, stopped Eleazar “Tronco” Valenzuela, 21-14-4 (16), #1351/2, of Guasave, Sinola, MEX, in the sixth round of a scheduled 10 rounds.

In the first round Berchelt landed a solid left hook to the body of Valenzuela heard throughout the ring. In the final seconds of the round a left hook from Berchelt on the chin dropped Valenzuela for an 8-count. In the second round Berchelt continued bombing away at a game Valenzuela who was still fighting back at the bell. In the third round Berchelt landed a low blow giving Valenzuela only seconds to recover from the referee. Berchelt landed eight unanswered punches in the middle of the round. He was landing 10-1 in punch count.

In the fourth round Berchelt came out with a 4-punch combination. In the final minute of the round almost a dozen unanswered punches from Berchelt. In the fifth round the onslaught continued but Valenzuela was one game opponent. One wondered why the referee or corner didn’t stop it. In the sixth round Berchelt landed three left hooks to the head. Seconds later the referee finally stepped in and waved it off after half a dozen punches to the head.

In the co-feature Super Lightweight Omar “Polo” Alejandro Aguilar, 18-0 (17), #140, of Ensenada, Baja CA, Mexico, stopped Dante “Crazy” Jardon, 32-7 (23), #140, of Distrito Federal, Mexico City, MEX, at ? of the first round of a scheduled 10 rounds. Commentators didn’t even give the time of stoppage.

In the first round Aguilar jumped all over Jardon hurting him with a pair of rights and continuing until the referee called a halt prematurely.

Super Bantamweight Alan “Rey” David Picasso, 14-1 (5), #121¼”, of Distrito Federal, Mexico City, MEX, Florentino “Violento” Perez Hernandez, 14-6-2 (9), #121¼”, of Nuevo Leon, Monterrey, MEX, over 8 rounds.

In the first three rounds Picasso used his height and reach well with Hernandez always coming forward. In the fourth round Hernandez came storming out landing well. Picasso though taller landed uppercuts to the body with both hands.

In the sixth and seventh rounds Picasso continued to outland Hernandez who was showing the effect of taking so many body shots from Picasso. In the eighth and final round Hernandez chased and Picasso knew he had the fight and coasted.

Scores were 78-74, 79-73 and 79-74 with this writer 80-72.
