Heavyweight Lineal Champion Tyson “Gypsy King” Fury, 29-0-1 (20), 254 1/2, of Manchester, UK, defeated European champion and No. 4 ranked southpaw Otto Wallin, 20-1 (13), 231, of Sundsvall, Sweden, over 12 rounds.
In the first round Fury used his longer reach of 6″ at 6:09 to jab his way keeping Wallin at bay. Halfway through the round southpaw Wallin landed a solid lead left on the chin of Fury. In the second round Wallin landed a good body shot to the mid-section of Fury with a left hand. Fury missed a left and was countered into the corner with Wallin landing a flurry of punches. Fury from off the ropes landed a jab right and a left on the chin of Wallin.
In the third round Fury used an effective jab but near the end of the round a Wallin left on the right eyebrow of Fury caused a nasty cut several inches long causing blood to run down the side of his face. In the fourth round Fury continued using his jab while Wallin would get inside using his head or short left when tied up by Fury to keep the cut open even more.
In the fifth round Fury landed several right uppercuts to the chin of Wallin whose best punch of the round was a left on the chin halfway through the round. Blood was flowing from the cut on Fury plus another cut on the eyelid. In the sixth round both scored good exchanges. Halfway through the round the referee brought in the ring physician who let the fight continue. In the final seconds as referee Weeks was breaking them Wallin reached to the cut and rubbed his right glove on it getting a warning.
In the seventh round Wallin immediately landed a combination to the chin of Fury. It was a close round with Fury getting the edge. In the eighth round it was a big one for Fury who had Wallin in a corner landing a pair of solid rights on the chin. Wallin seemed to slow down quite a bit. In the ninth round it was Fury scoring well. In the final ten seconds Fury landed a left to the chin followed by a right behind the head pulling Wallin off balance. At the end of the round Wallin had a bloody nose.
In the tenth round it was a big round for Fury who pinned Wallin against the ropes landing with both hands to the chin of Wallin. In the eleventh round it was all Fury. Wallin ran out of gas after six rounds.
In the twelfth and final round for some reason referee Tony Weeks didn’t have the fighters touch gloves. Near the end of the first minute Wallin seemed to get his “second wind” rocking Fury with a flurry of punches. The right side of Fury’s face is a mask of blood. This was the biggest round for Wallin but too little too late. Wallin and Fury had a bruise under their left eye at the end.
