At the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, Friday night Top Rank Boxing promoted the rematch WBO World Super Middleweight Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez made his fifth defense against his No. 1 contender Jesse “Hollywood” Hart, in a rematch from September of 2017.

WBO Super Middleweight Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez, 39-0 (25), of Sinaloa, MEX, won a majority decision over No. 1 ranked Jesse “Hard Work” Hart, 25-2 (21), of Philadelphia, PA, over 12 rounds.

In the opening round Hart used the ring well using a solid jab. In the second round Ramirez came back with some heavy hitting. In the third round and fourth rounds Hart was holding too much. Ramirez simply outworked Hart.

In the fifth round Hart used a double and triple left hook to the body of Ramirez. Hart landed several good right uppercuts. Ramirez is still landing more punches. In the sixth round Ramirez continued to land more than Hart who grabs too much. Hart continues to go to his right instead of his left against the southpaw Ramirez.

In the seventh round Hart finally started going to his left with more success. This was a much closer round but Ramirez still controlled it. In the eighth round Hart smothered Ramirez keeping him against the ropes with a good body attack.

In the ninth round Hart couldn’t push Ramirez to the ropes. Both slugged it out mostly in the middle of the ring with Ramirez outworking Hart. In the tenth round Ramirez seemed to have hurt his left hand doing very little with it. In a close fight Hart may have stole it at the end with a flurry of punches.

In the eleventh round it was another close round with inside fighting that could have gone either way. In the twelfth and final round Ramirez landed right hook after right hook hurting Hart on several occasions. Hart ended the round with a flurry hurting Ramirez.

Scores were 114-114 and 115-113 with this writer having it 116-112.

“I thought I won every round. I hurt my left arm but still beat him. I would have knocked him out otherwise. I will move up to light heavyweight,” said Ramirez. “I thought I won the fight. I’m staying at super middleweight,” said Hart.

In the co-feature No. 9 ranked WBO Super Lightweight Arnold Barboza, Jr., 20-0 (7), of L.A., CA, pounded out a decision over a game “Manny Lo” Manuel Lopez, 14-3-1 (7), of Denver, CO, over 10 rounds for the NABF title, by all scores of 100-90.

In the first two rounds Barboza controlled the rounds with a good jab and right uppercuts as Lopez came in head down. In the third round Lopez made more of a fight of it but Barboza landed left hooks to the body hurting Lopez. In the fifth thru the seventh rounds Barboza rocked Lopez several times with right hands to the chin.

In the eighth round Barboza continued the onslaught as Lopez had no answer. In the ninth round Barboza landed half a dozen punches with no return from Lopez. In the tenth and final round Barboza rocked Lopez with a left hook to the head hurting him. A game Lopez tried his best but Barboza was much too busy for him.

Super Bantamweight Joshua “Don’t Blink” Greer, Jr., 19-1-1 (11), of Chicago, IL, easily stopped a game Daniel “El Alacran” Lozano, 15-6 (11), of Bowling Green, FL, for the WBC Continental-Americas Title, after seven rounds of a scheduled ten.

In the opening round both boxers felt each other out while Greer took the round. In rounds two thru four the hand speed of Greer was too much for Lozano to handle. In the fifth round Greer hit Lozano with everything while Lozano seemed to have an iron jaw.

In the sixth round Lozado landed four punches but got countered with a pair of uppercuts from Greer. Greer continued out punching Lozado. In the seventh round Greer landed a five punch combination with the last right dropping Lozado just prior to the end of the round. Lozado’s corner wouldn’t allow him out for the eighth of a ten round bout.

NABF Female Featherweight Champion Mikaela Mayer, 9-0 (4), of Colorado Springs, CO, won all 8 rounds for her ninth straight win over Calista “Cali” Silgado, 17-11-3 (12), of Tolu, COL.

Super Featherweight southpaw Jamal “Semper Fi” Herring, 19-2 (10), of Cinn., OH, won all 8 rounds scoring a pair of knockdowns defeating Adeilson “Adel” Dos Santos, 19-6 (15), of Sao Paulo, BRZ, by scores of 80-70.
