At the Ballroom, Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey, Saturday over Showtime Tom Brown (TGB Promotions), Marshall Kauffman (Kings Promotions), Sampson Lewkowicz (Sampson Boxing) presented in the Main Event IBF Interim welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis of Philadelphia looked sensational stopping WBO No. 2 ranked Roiman “Flaco de Oro” Villa, of Venezuela in ten rounds.
IBF Interim Welterweight champ Jaron “Boots” Ennis, 31-0 (28), #145 ½, of Philadelphia, PA, knocked out Roiman “Flaco de Oro” Villa, 26-2 (24), #146 ½, of Barrinquita, VZ, at 1:27 of the tenth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.
In the first round it was all Ennis with Villa hardly landing a punch as Ennis finished the round southpaw. In the second round Ennis drew blood from the nose of Villa a minute into the round. Ennis ended the round with a 3-punch combination to the chin with hand speed Villa can’t defend against.
In the third round Villa kept coming forward walking into the punches of Ennis. A right uppercut from Ennis a minute into the round knocked down the head of Villa. Halfway through the round Villa landed a counter right to the chin the first effective punch he has landed. The final minute the action picked up for both.
In the fourth round Ennis came out again southpaw as Villa followed him around the ring for the first minute. Ennis kept landing lefts to the body and an occasional lead right from orthodox on the chin. In the final minute Villa landed several jabs. Villa went to his corner with a frustrated look on his face. In the fifth round back to southpaw Ennis rocked Villa with a right cross on the chin a minute into the round. Villa keeps walking into punches. It was a large crowd in the ballroom supporting Ennis.
In the sixth rounds final minute Ennis landed an overhand right having Villa hurt bad managing to barely get to the bell. In the seventh rounds halfway point a left uppercut on the chin from Ennis hurt Villa. In the final seconds Ennis moved side to side landing punch after punch to the body having the crowd on their feet in his support.
In the eighth round Ennis could hardly miss landing a punch having Villa out on his feet. The ring physician was brought in checking Villa. In the ninth round with half a minute remaining Ennis knocked out the mouthpiece of Villa with an overhand right from southpaw. Referee David Fields warned Villa he is close to stopping the fight if he doesn’t show him something between rounds.
In the tenth round halfway through the round a combination dropped Villa for the first time in his career for the stoppage. The ring physician attended Villa as he sat on the canvas.
In the Co-Main Event Middleweight southpaw Yoelvis “La Joya” Gomez, 6-1 (5), #145.5, of Havana, Cuba and Las Vegas, NV, lost to “Marvelous” Marquis Taylor, 15-1-2In (1), #146.5, of Houston, TX, with Taylor scoring a knockdown over 10 rounds.
In the second round while inside Taylor landed a right on the chin and down went Gomez for an 8-count from Referee Harvey Dock halfway through the round. In the third round Gomez came back well but in the fourth and fifth rounds Taylor continued outworking Gomez.
In the seventh round Gomez used effective uppercuts inside with Taylor countering well cutting Taylor on the right eyebrow. In the eighth round Taylor landing from all angles with hand speed too much for Gomez.
In the ninth round Taylor continued out landing Gomez. In the tenth and final round it was Gomez doing too much too late as Taylor was hanging in there.
Scores were 96-93 twice and 99-90 and 97-92 KH.
WBC Continental Americas Lightweight champ southpaw Edwin De Los Santos, 16-1 (14), #133, of Brooklyn, NY, and Santo Domingo, DR, won every round defeating IBF Super Light Latino champ Joseph Adorno, 17-3-2 (14), #135, of Allentown, PA, over 10 rounds.
In the first three rounds southpaw De Los Santos forced the action outworking Adorno. In the fourth round Adorno came back well finishing with a left hook to the chin of De Los Santos at the bell but not enough to take the round.
In the fifth through the eighth rounds it was all De Los Santos with the corner of Adorno close to stopping the fight. In the ninth round Adorno showed a lot of guts hanging in there losing every round. In the tenth and final round Adorno looking to finish the fight with hands held high drawing boo’s from the crowd losing every round. Referee Charlie Fitch
