At the Red Owl Performance Centre, Brampton, Ontario, Canada, Saturday over DAZN Steven Fanous (Red Owl Boxing) presented in the Main Event welterweight Zsolt “The PhenomAdam” Daranyi stopping Jhony “Vaquero” Navarrete in the sixth round with a body shot after five competitive rounds of action.
In the Main Event Zsolt “The PhenomAdam” Daranyi, 19-1 (18), of Budapest, HUN, and Toronto, Ontario, CAN, Jhony “Vaquero” Navarrete, 35-20-2 (15), of San Juan, Zitlaltepec, MEX, at 1:17 of the sixth round of a scheduled 10 rounds.
In the first round Navarrete was the aggressor. In the second round Daranyi used an effective jab keeping Navarrete from getting inside. In the third and fourth rounds Navarrete never stopped coming forward pushing Daranyi around the ring though getting countered.
In the fifth round Daranyi started using an effective jab causing swelling under the left eye of Navarrete. He was landing chopping rights to the head of Navarrete who was switching to southpaw. In the sixth round a left hook to the liver from Daranyi and down went Navarrete on his knees taking the full count. It had been 8 months since his last fight for Daranyi.
In the co-feature Light Heavy Nick Fantauzzi, 12-1 (5), of Toronto, Ontario, CAN, easily defeated Kenny Cherry, 4-7-1 (2), of Montreal, Quebec, CAN, over 8 rounds.
In the first two rounds the taller Fantauzzi controlled the action. In the third round Cherry came back well but not enough to win the round. In the fourth rounds midway point Fantauzzi landed a right on the chin driving Cherry to the ropes.
In the fifth rounds final seconds Fantauzzi had Cherry hurt with a right on the chin. In the sixth round Fantauzzi continued dominating the fight. In the final seconds Cherry got in his best punch of the fight for him a right to the chin of Fantauzzi. In the eighth and final round Fantauzzi landed a right followed by three more punches to the chin and down went Cherry for an 9-count. Upon rising the fight should have been stopped but the referee took his time checking out Cherry as the bell sounded.
Scores were 79-72, 80-71 twice as did this writer.
Super Middle Mohamed Zawadi, 6-1 (5), of Barrie, Ontario, CAN, won a hard fought decision over southpaw Jesus “Carnitas” Arriaga, 3-4 (2), of Mexico City, MEX, over 6 rounds.
In the first three rounds Arriaga was the aggressor throughout against the countering of Zawadi. In the fourth and fifth rounds Zawadi came back well enough to edge out Arriaga. In the sixth and final round both had their moments as Zawadi may have pulled it out.
Scores were 59-54, 58-55 and 59-54
Super Welter Emzar Lashvili, 4-0 (1), of Tbilisi, GEO, won a disputed decision over Justin Grant, 0-2 (0), of Montreal, Quebec, CAN, over 4 rounds.
In the first round two rounds Grant applied the pressure on Lashvili. In the third round Lashvili came back well. In the fourth and final round it was Grant having Lashvili against the ropes at the bell.
Scores were 39-37 by all judges. This writer had it 39-37 Grant.
