At the Crypto.com Arena, in L.A., CA, Saturday over DAZN promoter Oscar De La Hoya (Golden Boy Promotions) presented in the Main Event WBC Interim Lightweight Champion Ryan ‘King Ry’ Garcia retained his title stopping former WBA Super Featherweight champion Javier “Elabejon” Fortuna 0:27 into the sixth round scoring his third knockdown of the fight.
In the Main Event WBC Interim Champion Ryan ‘King Ry’ Garcia, 23-0 (19), #140, of Victorville, CA, stopped former WBA Super Feather champ southpaw Javier “Elabejon” Fortuna, 37-4-1 (26), #139 ¾, of La Romana, DR, and Braintree, MASS, at 0:27 of sixth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.
In the first three rounds the taller Garcia used an effective jab while Fortuna landed a counter right hook on several occasions. In the fourth rounds first minute a Garcia left hook to the body dropped Fortuna for an 8-count from Referee Jerry Cantu but managed to get through the round.
In the fifth round near the halfway point Garcia landed a left hook to the body of Fortuna dropping him for an 8-count from Referee Cantu but again managed to get through the round. Twenty seconds into the sixth round a Garcia left hook to the chin and down went Fortuna to a knee spitting out his mouthpiece taking the full count from Referee Cantu.
NABA Super Lightweight Lamont “Reaper” Roach, Jr., 23-1-1 (9), #129 ¾, of Upper Marlboro, MD, easily defeated Angel “Humildad” Rodriguez, 20-2 (10), #129 ¼, of Barranquilla, COL, and Irapa, VZ, over 12 rounds.
In the first three rounds the taller Rodriguez had an edge in rounds one and three. In the fifth round Roach landed a right on the chin of Rodriguez almost dropping him halfway through the round. In the eighth round again Roach in the final seconds of the round Roach had Robinson in trouble starting with a right to the chin.
In the ninth and tenth rounds Roach continued to outwork Robinson. In the eleventh and twelfth rounds Roach continued to walk down Robinson taking those rounds looking like an easy winner. Referee was Ray Corona.
Scores were 116-112 twice and 117-111 as did this writer.
Flyweight Ricardo “El Nino” Rafael Sandoval, 20-2 (15), #111 ¾, of Rialto, CA, was upset by David “Medalita” Jimenez, 12-0 (9), #111 ¼, of Cartago, CR, by majority decision over 12 rounds.
In the first two rounds Sandoval had an edge. In the third round Jimenez was outworking Sandoval until the final thirty seconds of the round and got him by a left hook on the chin getting his attention. In the fourth through the sixth rounds Sandoval was out landing Jimenez two to one taking all the rounds.
In the seventh round Jimenez had a point taking away due to excessive holding after several warnings by Referee Thomas Taylor. In the eighth and ninth rounds Sandoval had the edge but Jimenez came back well enough to take the tenth round except seconds left in the round when Sandoval landed a solid right to the chin.
In the eleventh rounds final twenty seconds Jimenez landed a chopping right on the chin dropping Sandoval for an 8-count from referee Taylor. In the twelfth and final round Jimenez continued getting the better of Sandoval who came off the ropes midway fighting back well but not enough to win the round.
Scores were 114-112 twice and 113-113 for Jimenez while this writer had it 114-112 Sandoval.
Former WBA World Mini champion southpaw, Oscar “El Pugilo” Collazo, 5-0 (3), #105, of Villaba, PR, defeated former WBA World Mini champ Victorio “Vicious” Saludar, 21-6 (11), #104 ¼, of Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis, Oriental, PH, over 12 rounds.
Through the first four rounds it looked even. In the fifth round it looked like Saludar was tiring. In the seventh rounds halfway mark Saludar landed a right uppercut to the chin dropping Collazo for an 8-count from referee Sharon Sands. Collazo came back scoring a knockdown in the final seconds.
From the eighth through the twelfth Collazo came back well using his jab effectively taking all of those rounds.
Scores were 118-110 and 116-112 twice as did this writer.
Southpaw Alexis “Lex” Rocha, 20-1 (13), #145 ½, of Irvine, CA, easily defeated Luis “Lucho” Alberto Veron, 19-4-2 (9), #146, of Jose Leon Suarez, Bueno Aires, ARG, 10 rounds, for the vacant WBO NABO Welterweight title.
In the first four rounds Rocha dominated Veron. In the fifth and sixth rounds Rocha continued chasing Veron down. In the seventh round it was Veron becoming the aggressor doing enough to make it a close round.
From the eighth through the tenth it was all Rocha with Veron never a threat. Referee was Thomas Taylor.
Scores were 100-90 twice and 99-91 as did this writer.
Featherweight Diego De La Hoya, 23-1 (11), #126, of Mexicali, Baja CA, MEX, knocked out Enrique “Duende” Bernache, 24-14 (12), #125 ¼, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, MEX, at 2:51 of the fourth round of a scheduled 10 rounds.
In the first round due to a clash of heads Bernache suffered a cut on left eye lid. In the fourth round De La Hoya drove Bernanche in a corner hit him with two rights on the chin having him defenseless when referee Corona halted the bout.
Super Middleweight Lawrence “Dawg” King, 11-1 (9), #?, of San Bernardino, CA, Edgar “Carmello” Valenzuela, 7-0 (6), #?, of Aqua Prieta, Sonora, MEX, 8 rounds.
In the first round
Lightweight southpaw Miguel Gaona, 3-0 (2), #138 ½, of L.A., CA, knocked out southpaw Abdiel Padilla, 1-3 (1), #136, of San Juan, PR, at 1:20 of the first round of a scheduled 4 rounds.
In the first round Gaona landed right hooks to the body and chin taking the count of 10 from referee Jack Reiss on his knee.
