At the T-Mobile Arena Saturday over FOXPPV Tom Brown (TGB Promotions) and Manny Pacquiao (MP Promotions) presented in the Main Event WBA Super World Champion Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao lost to WBA World Welter Champion Yordenis “54 Milagros” Ugas fighting for unification.
In the Main Event Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao, 62-8-2 (39), #146, of General Santos City, PH, lost to Olympian Yordenis “54 Milagros” Ugas, 27-4 (12), #147, of Cuba and Miami Beach, FL, over 12 rounds.
In the first three rounds Pacquiao outworked Ugas. In the fourth round Ugas was warned for the fourth time for low blows by referee Russell Mora. In the sixth round Pacquiao lands more with Ugas showing a good jab but little from the right hand.
In the eighth round there was swelling under both eyes of Pacquiao while Ugas had a slight cut on his right eyebrow. In the tenth and eleventh rounds Ugas landed lead rights on the chin against Pacquiao throughout the rounds. In the twelfth and final round Ugas continued out landing Pacquiao.
Scores were 115-113 and 116-112 twice for Ugas with this writer 115-113 Pacquiao.
Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo, 23-0 (16), #125 ½, of Rizal, Metro Manila, PH, knocked out Julio “Pollito” Ceja, 32-5-1 (28), #125, of Tlainepantla, Mexico and Palmdale, CA, at 0:50 of the tenth round of a scheduled 12.
Early in the first round a left hook from Magsayo on the chin of Ceja and down he went for an 8-count from referee Kenny Bayless. In the final seconds of the fifth round it was Ceja landing a left hook to the chin of Magsayo dropping him for an 8-count as the bell sounded. In the tenth round Magsayo raced out and drilled Ceja with a variety of punches until he fell from a right on the chin for the count. This writer had it 85-84 Ceja after 9 rounds.
Featherweight Carlos Castro, 27-0 (12), #125 ½, of Sonora, MEX, and Phoenix, AZ, stopped Oscar “El Guerrero” Escandon, 26-6 (18), #125 ¼, of Ibague, COL, at 1:08 of the tenth and final round for the vacant WBC Continental Americas title.
In the tenth round a flurry of punches from Castro dropped Escandon in the tenth. He got the 8 count and dropped to a knee ending the fight.
In the co-Main Event Welterweight southpaw former WBC Welter champ southpaw “Vicious” Victor Ortiz”, 32-7-3 (25), #148, of Ventura, CA, lost to southpaw 2-division champ Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, 37-6-1 (20), #146 ¾, of Las Vegas, NV, by way of Gilroy, CA, over 10 rounds.
In the first two rounds Guerrero did well. In the fourth Ortiz had Guerrero’s left eye almost closed with an accidental clash of heads. From the fifth through the ninth it went back and forth with Guerrero having the edge. In the tenth and final round both had little left but still trying.
Scores were 96-94 by all judges with this writer 97-93.
Welterweight southpaw Frank “The Ghost” Martin, 14-0 (10), #135, of Indianapolis, IND, defeated Ryan “The Polish Prince” Kielczeweski, 30-6 (11), #134 ¾, of Quincy, MASS, over 10 rounds.
All scores 100-90.
Lightweight Jose Valenzuela, 9-0 (6), #135, of Sinaloa, MEX, and Seattle, WA, stopped Donte Strayhorn, 12-4 (4), #134 ¼, of Las Vegas, NV, at 1:29 of the fourth round of a scheduled 8.
