At the Arena Alcalde, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Saturday over DAZN Osvaldo Chavez (Clase y Talento Boxeo), Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing) and Saul Alvarez (Canelo Promotions) presented in the Main Event WBC World Flyweight champion Julio “El Rey” Cesar Martinez stopping Joel “El Trino” Cordova in a war in 6 rounds. In the co-feature WBA interim Light Flyweight champion Cuban Daniel “El Verdugo” Matellon and Jose “Tecuala” Argumedo.
In the Main Event Julio “El Rey” Cesar Martinez, 18-1 (14), #112, of Mexico City MEX, stopped Joel “El Trino” Cordova, 12-5-2 (3), #112, of Mexico City, MEX, at 1:00 of the sixth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.
In the first three rounds Cordova won two of them. In the fourth round Cordova continued outworking Martinez. In the fifth round in an all action round Martinez coming forward with countering him. In the sixth round a left from Martinez on the chin dropped Cordova for an 8-count. Upon rising Martinez had Cordova against the ropes though fighting back when the referee Frank Garza stepped in to stop it.
In the co-feature WBA interim Light Flyweight champion Cuban Daniel “El Verdugo” Matellon, 12-0-2 (6), #107 ½, of Panama City, Panama, won a decision over Jose “Tecuala” Argumedo, 24-5-1 (15), #107 ½, of Tepic, Nayarit, MEX, over 12 close rounds.
In the first two rounds Argumedo outworked Matellon. In the third round a clash of heads caused a cut on the left eyebrow of Argumedo who was winning the rounds. In the fourth round Argumedo was cut on the right eyebrow but took the round.
In the fifth through the seventh rounds Argumedo continued pressing Matellon outpunching him. In the ninth round with blood running down from Argumedo’s left eye he continued to chase down Matellon. In the tenth round’s final seconds Matellon rocked Argumedo for the first time in the fight. In the twelfth and final round it was a war to the bell.
Scores were 117-111 and 115-113 twice for Matellon while this writer had it 117-111 Argumedo. Referee was Luis Pabon.
Super Lightweight Gabriel “Nini” Gollaz Valenzuela, 24-2-1 (14), #138 ¼, of Guadalajara, MEX, stopped late sub Juan “Veneno” Ocura, #138 ½, 13-15-2 (6), of Sabinas, MEX, at 2:10 of the seventh in a 10.
In the first two rounds both had their moments splitting the rounds. In the third round a right uppercut from Valenzuela on the chin of Ocura and down he went for an 8-count just before the bell. In the fourth round Valenzuela came out for the finish but halfway through the round Ocura was fighting back and finished the round strong.
In the fifth and sixth rounds Valenzuela had an edge but Ocura was in there fighting back. In the seventh round a left hook from Valenzuela on the chin had Ocura in trouble backing up forcing referee Rodrigo Flores to wave it off.
Super Middle Diego Pacheco, 12-0 (9), #167, of L.A, CA, stopped Jesus “Mazo” Moroyoqui Palomares, 7-1-1 (4), #167, of Sonora, MEX, at 2:17 of the sixth in a scheduled 8 rounds.
In the first three rounds it was all Pacheco using a solid jab and doing all the landing. In the fourth round Moroyoqui was missing with overhand rights but was still in the fight.
In the fifth round in the final minute a left uppercut from Pacheco knocked out the mouthpiece of Moroyoqui. In the sixth round Pacheco was landing at will with two rights on the chin knocking out the mouthpiece forcing the referee to wisely wave it off.
