At the Wembley Arena, London, UK, Saturday, over DAZN, Matchroom Boxing – Eddie Hearn promoted in the Main Event former IBF World Featherweight champion Josh “The Leeds Warrior” Warrington was knocked out by Mauricio “Bronco” Lara. Warrington gave up his title before this fight so no title was at stake.
In the Main Event IBF World Featherweight champion Josh “The Leeds Warrior” Warrington, 30-1 (7), #131.8, of Leeds, Yorkshire, UK, was upset and stopped by Mauricio “Bronco” Lara, 22-2 (15), #131.8, of Mexico City, MEX, at 0:54 of the ninth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.
In the fourth round Lara knocked Warrington down and he was never the same going into the ninth round. In the ninth round Lara landed three left hooks to the chin followed by a right to the body and a final left hook to the chin of Warrington and down he went and out! It took over five minutes to get him back on the stool.
”Simply it’s been a great night for my family and the people back in Mexico. We worked really hard for this fight. We worked round by round. We knew he was number one in the world. I’m looking forward to seeing my wife and daughter when I get back home,” said Lara. Lara’s right eye was bruised and close to being closed.
“Josh hadn’t fought for sixteen months and I told him Lara can punch so box him but he came out fighting,” said Eddie Hearn.
Featherweight Leigh ‘Leigh-thal’ Wood, 24-2 (14), #125 3/4, of Nottinghamshire, UK, stopped Reece Mould, 13-1 (6), #125 2/4, of Yorkshire, UK, at 1:03 of the 9th for the vacant British Feather title.
Mould was down once in the fourth and twice in the ninth.
Super Featherweight Zelfa ‘Brown Flash’ Barrett, 25-1 (15), #128 3/4, of Manchester, Lancashire, UK, defeated former IBF Super Bantamweight champion Kiko “La Sensacion” Martinez, 41-10-2 (29), #128 1/4, of Alicante, Comuidad Valenciana, Spain, over 10 rounds.
