In the first round a clash of heads cut both on the left eye brows. Williams went on the attack landing half a dozen unanswered punches with left hooks to the ribs dropping Robinson who took the count on his knees from referee Marcus MacDonald.

In the first round thirty seconds into the fight Fantino landed a right cross on the chin of Hutchinson driving him into the ropes. Halfway through the round Hutchinson who was fighting with his hands to his side landed nine unanswered punches. In the final half a minute of the round Hutchinson again opened up landing a dozen punches dropping Fantino for an 8–count. Upon rising Hutchinson landed nine punches forcing the referee Ian Jon Lewis to call a halt
