EBU Heavyweight champion Agit Kabayel of Bochum, Germany, defeated Evgenious “Achillies” Lazaridis, of Greece and Frankfort, Germany for the vacant WBA Continental heavyweight title Saturday over ESPN+. The event was held at the Seebuhne Elbauenpark Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany before an approximate 1,000 spectators.
In the Main Event EBU heavyweight champion Agit Kabayel, 20-0 (13), #236 ¾, of Bochum, Germany, won a lackluster decision over Evgenious “Achillies” Lazaridis, 16-3 (10), #255, of Greece and Frankfort Germany, for the vacant WBA Continental heavyweight title, 10 rounds.
In the first round Lazaridis seemed to have an edge. In the second round Kabayel was warned twice for holding and hitting behind the head by referee Oliver Brein. He picked up the action the rest of the round. In the fourth Kabayel continued dirty tactics but had little opposition from Lazaridis.
In the fifth and sixth rounds Kabayel used his jab to take the rounds with his fan’s yelling “Agit, Agit” throughout the bout. In the seventh round Kabayel used his jab was the key in the round. In the eighth round Kabayel landed his best combination of the fight to the head of Lazaridis. In the tenth and final round Kabayel was trying for a knockout as Lazaridis had little left but was able to go the distance.
Scores were 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92 with this writer 99-91.
In the co-feature European Featherweight champ southpaw Nina “The Brave” Meinke, 10-2 (3), #127 ¾, of Berlin, GER, easily defeated Edina “DNA” Kiss, 15-13 (9), #129, of Budapest, HUN, over 8 rounds in a non-tile bout.
Heavyweight Peter Kadiru, 8-0 (4), #239, of Hamburg, GER, defeated Eugen Buchmueller, 16-6 (13), #213, of KAZ and Bremerhaven, GER, who retired with right shoulder injury after 3 rounds of an 8.
Heavyweight Collins Omondi Ojal, 4-0 (2), #230 1/2, of Kenya and Regenstorf, Swz, defeated Georgij FiBich, 1-1 (1), #248, of UKR and CZ, 6 rounds.
Super Middleweight Artur Henrik 1-0 (0), #167 1/2, of Bremerhaven, GER, defeated Miguel “Maikol” Aguilar, 11-65-1 (5), #165 1/2, of NIC and Gerona, SP, winning all 4 rounds.
Henrik is a former 4-time amateur champ.
