Top Rank Boxing held a press conference for this Saturdays WBC World Heavyweight rematch between WBC No. 1 Ranked Tyson “Gypsy King” Fury, 29-0-1 (20), 42-0-1 (41), of Cheshire, UK, and WBC World heavyweight champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder, of Tuscaloosa, AL.
In their first encounter in December of 2018 the judge’s scores were Mexico’s Alejandro Rochin 115-111 for Wilder, Canada’s Robert Tapper 114-112 for Fury and UK’s Phil Edwards 113-113 while this writer had it 114-112 Fury.
BOB ARUM: I’m impressed and thankful to Tyson Fury, who has shown the world how you as a participant promote a big event like the heavyweight championship match. Tyson has done a marvelous job communicating to the press, and having watched him in the gym, sparring I’m tell everybody he’s on the top of his game and you’re going to see a masterful performance from Tyson on February 22nd.
TYSON FURY: I’ve been training hard the last 8 weeks in Las Vegas, and I was training very hard in the UK for 4 or 5 weeks prior to that. I beat him in our 12 round contest. I’m match fit and I’m ready. I’m confident. My biggest mistake last time was I didn’t make him pay when he was hurt. I didn’t know what I had in the tank last time. I know I can go the distance this time.
It’s been reported Fury is predicting a second round knockout! Wilder is predicting a knockout but not naming the round. The rematch will have bouts starting at 9pm est. The person fortunate not to lose like Wilder was usually took the fight too lightly and comes back stronger. Fury came off the canvas in rounds 9 and 12 along with receiving numerous stitches from a bad cut.
