p>Thailand is known for allowing their boxers fight opponents who have no chance of victory. Their Travel Bureau is their Boxing Commission. Chayphon Moonsri is 52-0 with 18 stoppages but 33 of those 52 wins were against opponents with winning records. He is the WBC Minimum champion.
Then there is Tasana Salapat, 48-0 with 33 stoppages of Roi-Et, Thailand who lost Sunday for the vacant interim WBC World Bantamweight championship against Takuma Inoue, 12-0, of Japan at the Ota-City General Gymnasium over 12 rounds. He only fought 12 opponents with winning records. This was Salapat’s first bout outside of Thailand. The 25 year-old southpaw won the WBC Youth Silver in October of 2013 defeating an opponent making his debut. He defended the title 14 times up until February 2017.
A win by Salapat would have tied him with the late heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano at 49-0. Only active boxers Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. at 50-0 and Moonsri at 52-0 have better records. Half a dozen boxers passed Marciano’s 49-0 record before losing. Mayweather’s 50th win over an opponent making his professional debut was a disgrace. He is at it again against another MMA opponent making his debut against Tenshin Nasukawa in Japan. Let’s hope this time it’s an exhibition.
